If you engage your braincell, I think you may find out Russ has had "some" dealings with our ecilop department...

Either that or just look at the pretty contrails waaay above your head.

I was heading up onto SH1 Northbound from South Eastern Highway yesterday.

A cop had just pulled a guy queue jumping in the T2 lane with no passengers. As I headed up the lane, he waved to me and pointed in the direction of the queueing traffic.

I didn't work out what he wanted from his gesture so I pulled up next to him.

"It isn't a bus lane buddy - you need to queue up also."
"I thought I was allowed to be in transit lanes?"
"Yeah - I know it is confusing but you shouldn't be in these."
"OK - strange because I saw a letter from Waitemata police saying that we could in all the lanes except the Grafton truck one?"
"Oh well, news to me, but if you are sure no worries."
    "OK - cheers."

So perfectly pleasant cop (and he had missed me cutting through a poled off cross hatched area to get to the lane!) and he was doing something worthwhile, namely ticketing the guy who thought he had far more reason than the rest of society to get to work faster, but he didn't know the rules, unless they had changed....

I'll email the cops (without naming the cop - he was a nice guy afterall).

Test ... which answer is correct ... ??

On a Transit Lane sign, what does T2 mean?

    A. This lane can be used any time after 2pm

    B. Only vehicles with two seats can use this lane

    C. Only vehicles with less than two people inside can use this lane

    D. Only vehicles carrying two or more people can use this lane

    E. There are two transit lanes ahead

    The correct answer is D

This is a transit lane which can only be used by passenger service vehicles, cycles, motorcycles and vehicles carrying at least two people.

Yeah - of course we are allowed there! I wouldn't have followed a cop up the lane if I slightly suspected otherwise....

What I was more bothered about was the attitude of the cage drivers who saw me getting a finger wagging and will go all self righteous to bikers in future....

Did like this on the drivingtest site - "If a transit lane is being monitored then you will need to ensure that your passengers are visible"

I thought we were innocent until proven guilty?

    The legislation has been abbreviated.

From Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, Section 1.6 Interpretation

transit lane means a lane reserved for the use of the following (unless specifically excluded by a sign installed at the start of the lane):
    (a) passenger service vehicles:
    (b) motor vehicles carrying not less than the number of persons (including the driver) specified on the sign:
    (c) cycles:
    (d) motorcycles:
    (e) mopeds

Maybee you should learn to read english (& again learn you some legislation while you're at it). Bikes are completely legal in using T2 lanes by legislation & even the copy & paste you posted

90% of NZ's road funding anyway ... ... having their own rules seems highly likely. Changing them (to suit themselves) can only be expected. But how can Police .. police the rules ... if many of them are not aware of the changes ..??

At least we dont have any issues with Taniwha's near our roads here in Paradise ...

I remember being pulled up for driving in the bus line next to western springs while pasifika was on. Didn't want to go to pasifika, according to the sign the bus lane was only a bus lane Monday to Friday. It was Saturday. plod pulled me over.

'any reason you're driving in the bus lane'

'its outside the hours of being a bus lane at the moment and I don't want to go to pasifika'

'you better not use it anyway. Another unit up the road and he will give you a ticket anyway'

    WTF?!

Aren't they for parking when not in use as bus lanes?

Edit: Don't know about Auckland but in Chch bikes can use them during 'on' hours anyway. Didn't know that, sweet!

    http://resources.ccc.govt.nz/files/c...ntBrochure.pdf

    However...

    Outside these times, the
bus lanes generally revert to on-street parking spaces with
a cycle lane alongside, where indicated.

I don't believe Auckland has taniwha issues, but you may like to ask those who live in Waikato...

Precisely, a lane is only a bus lane when the sign indicates that it is... the remainder of the day it is the lane nearest the kerb and can be parked in or driven in...
