My mate Terry was like that.Back in the 70`s he had a lightly tuned Suzi GT250A and was pretty-well un-catchable on a twisty road.A lot of good riders on big bikes got left in his wake.A mechanic at a local dealer got him onto a track and tried to get it into his head to keep his considerable talents there.Guy was a novice but used to regularly get into the top 5 against guys on proper race bikes, admittedly nothing cutting-edge but racebikes just the same and he`d ride his to the track and back.Very, very talented rider as far as going very fast was concerned,an accident waiting to happen on the road.Sure enough he got killed in an accident that was mainly due to the speed he was doing. At the time he was already banned and waiting to go to court for riding while banned. He`d only been riding for a year or so and was a natural racer, the Suzi was the first bike he`d ever had,sad waste of a great bloke let alone someone with amazing potential.

A good rider on somthing that light would be very hard to keep up with on tight roads.

I don't know any body well that might fit the criteria, "legend" in Biking circles, but to me a legend would be an old rider who started out in the days of hard tails and oil leaks, raced over seas, returned, unheralded and now rides regularly alone or in group rides and never talks about his exploits only listens as young ones tell others about what they heard he did years ago.

I know a few of those, and some of the more famous ones by sight - go to any race track and you'll see a few around, grey haired of farts hanging around the pits being nosey, they could of cleaned up everyone there in their day....but are just happy to soak up the atmosphere.

Yea Soundbeltfarm thats the guy from what I hear . He will not keep doing that for long I feel . He does ride very well but even hitting a small bird at 270k will take you off line or maybe off the road . I have had a few close calls when I had my Stage 3 GSXR1100R last one made me sell it & by a Ducati .

Hell, hitting a duck at 80km/hr will do the job, as my mate Allun can attest to. It's not the hazards you see that'll take you out, it's the ones you don't see. Take it easy out there, enjoy our beautiful country side, live life stronger than death.

A local legend that no-one knew about died a couple of years ago.
Factory racer, rode and designed chassis/engines for Manx Nortons etc.
Designed a GP engine for Honda, was an aerodynamasististst on the Ford GT40 project, worked for Lotus etc etc etc.
Very quiet spoken and it was like getting stories out of a stone.
Was designing engines and consulting for Euro bike firms right up until his death.

    Have one on me Colin

I rode with Soundbeltfarm from Normanby to Urenui. He was a good rider and very well behaved in the speed department.
