Chris Birch- First outing AWD christini

I had ride customers last Saturday so couldnt get to the GNCC at maramarua, but Chris Birch used the event as a shake down for his brand new KTM/Christini AWD Bike.
I know he won, but how did it go? was it the kind of terrain where the AWD was a benefit or what?
Retired- just some guy with a few bikes......

He went good.. was hard packed and rough so not really a good test. We went to wires boxing day so that was probably a better test. The thing is amazing and goes anywhere, was quite choice to watch.. Very nice looking unit also.. Chris did say that the awd was excellent when we had to make a sharp left hand turn back up a road section and awd drifts are aparantly quite fun!

Here is a small vid I made on the day of Everest,

All in all it was a good first race test for the AWD, we were hoping for a bit of rain but it never came, but man that dust looked like hell.

    Questions:

So what has happened to the AWD Yammy? Has it passed into history? Will AWD be a viable alternative for the masses?
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

forget the yammy, that 2wd KTM was awesome to see at desert storm... not to mention the mad skill of the man riding it. he came past me like i was standing still on saturday and then killed the competition in the endurocross and so thoroughly humble in sportsmanship

Life get's interesting, will Chris be able to ride an AWD bike in the National Enduro or TTR series for instance & what about Romaniacs / Last man standing.

Though I believe he was more concerned about how what advantage it'd give his competitors in enduros , certainly there's going to be a rush to check the rule books / categories.

My read is the Christini is aot smarter than the hydraulics Yamaha used, but who knows maybe with Electrical cars going off, how about a generator on the bike ( well bigger one ) and electrical motor on the front.

Will KTM actually allow him to ride one?

Ummmm Well the Christini is awesome. The standard 300 KTM is a mountain goat anyway and with the kit on it pretty much goes anywhere! I've done twenty hours on it without the AWD system missing a beat and have got up some trails i havent managed for several years.

I will race the bike a bit in NZ, not the national enduro's or TTR's though. The main reason is the typical kiwi "oh he only won the race cause of blah blah blah..." attitude! As for Romainiacs and Erzberg I dont know yet, but I'd be pretty keen. If you get the chance to do one of Daff's awd experience days do it, they are good fun.

There was a quick look at the 2007 last man standing the other week on sky. Geoff Aaron was on a Christini. When he's up against Taddy and David, he'll need all the help he can get.
    Nearly there.....

Hmmm ... Birchy can probably flog them on a regular mount though. He should do that first and then move to being untouchable. He's got it in him...
