    Nice South Island Ride.

    Hi all,

I rode from Christchurch to Central Otago last weekend via Mount Cook, most excellent ride and recommend it to you to try.

ChCh head south, turn off at Rangitata then through to Geraldine, Tekapo, Twizel , Cromwell .

Great ride, unfortunately only ever done this via car but that'll change in time. How long did you allow for the total trip there and back?

Next time you do it, just south of Tekapo village (about 10minutes) you go up and over the canal, (if heading south) take a right, and travel parallel to the canal. Its kinda a short cut, but that is not the point.

The feeling of riding up there is amazing, big drop on one side, canal to the other. And amazing views across and up the lake. Its a 70kph speed limit.

Warning though, NEVER travel across it in high winds. One side is a big drop down a long bank, and the other is a cold water canal.
