    Question Licence on track day?

Hi guys. Been in NZ a few months and loving it. Finally got myself back on 2 wheels after been bikeless for 6months

Anyway finally got some track time booked in soon and can't wait. My brother in law is also here on holiday and hopefully is gonna join us. But I have a few questions that hopefully one of you KBers could help me with.

    1. I have not yet changed over my UK bike licence to a Kiwi one. Is this ok when registering on track day??

    2. My dumb ass brother has been riding 20 odd years. Arrives in NZ with his f****ng licence still in his Kitchen drawer. It's one of those ancient paper ones anyway so may have been no good. How strict are they on licences or if he explains v nicely will they let him on, after all its not public road so the same rules don't count right?? Or will he just have to sit at the side and watch me having fun??

    Advice appreciated

I don't think I've ever been asked for my licence at trackdays. I've been to MotoTT, Kiwitrackdays, Suzuki trackdays and the Honda Riders Club trackdays. You should be ok.

Never been asked for a licence yet (not like the UK where its no licence no ride). You should be OK with a Uk licence as its road legal anyway for the first year. If in doubt, contact the track day organiser... its all pretty casual here.... not like the UK.

I know, UK track days take about 3 hours to register, Licence, Passport, Shoe size, 3 references from members or parliment, Mothers maiden name, credit history and what colour toothbrush you use please????

I'm still on my UK licence and I called and checked recently and they were fine with that. Not sure about having no licence at all tho, sure they check it on registration, but suppose you get a reasonable organiser and explain then he may be OK. Maybe he could just contact the DVLA in the UK and get them to fax / email confirmation of his licence status????

Isnt the point of a track day that you arent riding on the road and thus dont need a licence to operate said vehicle on the public roads?

I dont think I have EVER been asked for a licence (having said that, HRC trackdays specify a road legal bike.... the first one I went to I did ride to on my street bike but the others have been on an ex racebike I bought specifically for the purpose.

You should be okay - however all the trackdays that I've been to have had in the information or on the Web that you must have a valid license. In saying that heaps of people who have lost their license use track days to ride.

The Road Legal bike only thing is actually to do with Honda Sure insurance.
See a person with Honda insurance is covered if they have an oops as long as there were NO track/ race bikes there on the day.

Ring Robyn Stace, or Rob Edwards to clarify....

Personally, if I have an off at the track (or even on the road) I wouldn't actually bother my insurance company..... Not worth it. That's why I only have third party.

All that aside, we were actually asked for our licences to enter the CDMCTC Track Day at Manfeild last Saturday.
Yep, first time I have been asked before entering a track.
