    Harley seats?

The Harley factory I am sure must have designed the most uncomfortable seats for their bikes. After a longish ride yesterday I found my tail bone and bottom (thats ass to most KBers) was really sore. Hit a few potholes and railways tracks along the way which kind of didnt help.

I have searched the HD sites and forums and was hoping to get a single Sundowner seat but they dont make them to fit my bike. The next most popular seems to be a Mustang seat but I have never seen one in the flesh. Was kind of hoping someone out there has one and can tell me if they are any more comfortable than the Sundowner?

I am only looking at getting a "Solo" seat so if there are any other options it would be good to hear them too.

What model are you riding?? (oops, saw your heading!!)

    I ride a FXDXT (Superglide T-Sport) and CB (wife) rides a 1200 Sportster 'S'.

Neither of us has any problem with the stock seats, even riding around the South Island.

Could be just a body shape, size thing? I am hoping to come to the South Island early next year but think I would need a lower back massage at each stop.....

I'm with scumbag on this one. there is a lot of bagging of HD seats and while its each to their own I can easily go 400km on the seat in a day and have no issues. It maybe that i am the right fit or that having an ex wife I can no longer feel pain in other things who knows.

Corbins and mustangs seem to be the flavour and if your looking try for one of the solos with the back rests (removable rests me thinks).

best option is surprisingly made by harley themselves

the police single seat as fitted to the FXRP and various other police bikes is very comfortable, you can ride 500 - 600 miles a day without any problems

they turn up on fleabay & at swap meets from time to time

possibly available new from harley with a fitment kit for your bike, otherwise you need to make your own

have one fitted to my electraglide and one fitted to my panhead

I am not keen on a back rest. Personally I think they look a bit naff but if they are removable could be worth a look.

    Any ballpark figure of cost?

Imagine the grief I would get with that one

Thanks for the responses guys. Crasherfromwayback is having a look around for me but I will have a look at all the options.

I had my sporty seat re padded and re covered by a local upholster guy for $140. was ok before but now I have no problems with 600km a day ! buying a new seat from the shop was the expensive option !

Ditto Moto Guzzi California, could also be that I'm too long in the legs for the bike and knees are elevated, putting all the weight on the tailbone.
