I think BRONZ lost the plot over 25 years ago when they announced that they supported helmet laws and would not do anything to challenge them

Then Lee Hurley accepted a well paid job working for the department of transport or what ever it was called then and all momentum towards change and fighting unnecessary leglislation seemed to so astray

Well, how about BRONZ accepting the fact that Motorcycling is experiencing something of a crisis at the moment - and - not having BRONZ 'spokespeople' claiming that members of the public who vocally condemn motorcyclist's behaviour are doing so, not because they actually believe what they're saying, but rather, because they're just loonies.

Oh yes, when BRONZ gave up on their "right to decide" campaign of opposing compulsory helmet use.

Asking a bunch of motorcyclists what laws they would like to see in place would be like asking a 5-year-old what they want to have for their dinner.

So the announcment that the government are proposing an initiative targeting motorcyclists, in much the same way they targeted boyracers, isn't a crisis?

    Nope

I can see how you might think so - especially being so close to this.

I applaud your passion and determination to make the differences you feel are necessary - I've just been here before, many times

Over the last few decades I've been involved to various degrees in responses to govt. initiatives/probes/inquiries/even full blown "clamp downs" on the following:

    4wding

    offroad racing

    jetskis

    microlights

    blah, blah blah

they all seemed incredibly important and urgent at the time and many people felt their freedom to exercise their particular choice of hobby was in dire jeopardy.

I daresay you and most others here missed all of them and you could go out tomorrow and happily participate in any one of the above in blissful ignorance.

Its not a crisis - it hardly ever is.

Except we now live in a time when governments will happily make decisions regardless of what the majority (or minority - in the case of motorcyclists) want.

    Thats not a new thing

trust me - if 4wding could survive 9 years of Jeanette Fitzsimons all cosy with Labour then motorcycling has no crisis at the moment.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that people shouldn't be proactive and lead by example with reasonable behaviour on the roads - I just think its an overstatement to compare the silly season coverage of a few idiots equals a concerted attack on, or crisis for, motorcycling.
