First time out to the Coromandel

Blimey, I'm a new man and no mistake,

After 4 months of commuter biking, I decided today to take the high road to coro for the first time to stay a few days with the oldies. What a fantastic day for it.

So, Howick to Whitford, Clevedon, Kawakawa Bay then onto Kaiua with a stop off at the Mooloo cafe in Waitakaruru (brilliant cheeseburger by the way, well recommended), over the Kopu Bridge and then through the range to Tairua where I sit typing this in the sunshine with a cold beer in one hand and a big happy smile.

Saw a hell of a lot of bikers on the road, all waves, nods and general salutations. Big waves from the half dozen bikers that stopped at the Mooloo as I was leaving, great to see you gang...

Finally got the VL out of the smoke and on the road, great test for both the bikes handling and my own practice on the windy hilly stuff. Took the KB advice of finding the right gear and staying with it, looking through the bends and counter steering as best as possible. Also took the 'drink lots' hydration advice.

Weirdest thing was the amount of 'bug strikes' I got on the road. have now invested in some pocket wet wipes to keep the visor clean and 'bug guts' free.

So, I'm here for two days and cant wait for the journey back, truly inspirational stuff......jeez, I love this biker stuff...

had to share, am a very happy fat bastard right now.

Was out for a bit today as well and when I got home it looked like someone had tossed a whole jar of peanut butter at my leathers and more than once my visor got covered in the remnants of a low flying teradactyl.

I saw a UFO once while riding on Woodcocks Rd. I didn't actually see the object, it was near the Warkworth end and I was on a straight with farmland on both sides, and saw a large (maybe car-sized? Or larger?) shadow move across the road in front of me, I looked up but saw nothing. Nothing at all.

so it was Un-identifies, it was Flying, and ot was an object. It is my proffesional opinion that you saw an UFO.

No, not a single scary person, drunk chinaman, enraged yuppie or anything. Sheer pleasure to get out of the smoke and away from that stuff to be honest.

I did come across a few young 'uns in fast cars heading off for their weekend away at mummy & daddies $ 1,000,000 'bach' in Pauanui or wherever, they were chucking litter out of the car windows and generally being a pain in the arse, but I let them pass and get on with it.

I still have the ride home on Monday and I'm half thinking of taking the bike over to Waiheke for a few days mid Feb so I will keep my eyes open. Thd helmet cam is on order, by the way......
