LOL, ROFL and all those other generation Y-esque abbreviations. I was laughing so hard that you ran out of gas...in your 28L megasuperkiller tanker. Laughing even louder when we could see Renwick but could't quite get there! That never happens!

Sorry bout them steep downhills - that must've been frustrating for ya, but it was wicked coming back up them...damn torquing out in 1st gear when i needed revs!

There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

ha, no worries...dinged my exhaust can though. Must've looked like a right muppet trying to get up that thing... just a bit too tall in the first gear...

    Hey Creepy

I made up the screen myself out of a piece of Vyvax (spelling?) I got it from a plastic works place. It is malluable when heated with a heat gun & can be reformed numerous times.

The top of it sits approx 2-250mm above the height of the standard screen. I left the standard screen in place & drilled a couple of mounting holes on one side where the original screws go, then pressing it down when hot, moulded it over to get the shape then smoothed it out & put a little sweep at the top.

It is NOT a professional job but as stated in another post made by me for me.

After riding this weekend approx 700kms I have to say it is brilliant. I can sit behind the screen with my visor up & not have wind straight in my eyes. The wind noise drops significantly but the engine is a lot more noisier It is warmer & drier too. It's not everyones cup of tea having a large screen but I personally can't handle naked bikes. If you're inyerested I can post a couple of Pics. It wasn't hard to make.

    Leathams Rd, St Arnaud

Zerax and I are heading up there from Blenheim Shell station on Mid Renwick Rd at 9am, meet any filthy Nelsonites who want to tag along at the intersection of SH63 and Leathams Rd (theres a triangular grass island at the intersection) between 9.45 and 10 am. We're heading up Leathams Rd then coming back down and crossing the river (levels permitting) to have a look up the other branch. Seeing how time goes we might have a look at crossing the Wairau onto Northbank rd, levels dependant!

ha, two @'s I've missed as I have to sell my bike BEFORE getting a "new" one. She says...

Not too stressed about it, if it sells it sells, but if it does sell soon it might be in time to get that one in Nelson... otherwise the stable might be empty for a few months...

    Leatham Rd, SH63

This ride follows a tributary of the upper Wairau River, basically heading south into the hills from The Branch / Lake Argyle. The road is recommended for 4WD only as there are a good handful of deep river crossings. The deepest we experienced today was mid thigh and quite fast flowing. Big bikes might find it a bit of a handful so it pays to try and time the ride following a long dry spell.

Plenty of 4WD's use the road too for hunting access so keep it under control. Plenty of sharp rocks and branches on the road too. Three or four huts along the way, but to be honest we were having too much of a hoot just riding to be bothered stopping...

In short, out back of beyond so ride conservatively and go prepared for most contingencies.

210 km return from Blenheim to the end of the road. For those who have done it, I would liken this ride to Palmer Rd down Springs Junction way, but this is much more rugged.

    Pictures:
    1. The first serious river crossing.
    2. The bypass we found a few hundred metres up river - much shallower.
    3. The second serious river crossing (had to drain a carb on this one).
    4. The final serious crossing.
    5. Typical track shot.
    6. Awesome country.

The worst this about the ride is coming home to find the rest of the world still exists... bah.

Nah we skipped the Wairau Jeff - had grumpy wives and GF's to come home to, and yeah I reckon it woulda been deepish.

When we're up there next I think we'll have a look down Wadsworth Rd, just along from Lake Argyle. Should be good river access by the looks of it so can hopefully hop skip and jump over to Northbank...just need an egress point!
