    ktm dual ignition

Have any of you put a switch on your bars for the dual ignition on your ktm?
what wire was it that you cut and joined?
i know you can just pull the connector apart but it makes alot more sense to put a switch on.
also how much of a difference did you notice?
    cheers SBF

I've done it on my WR and I can notice the difference. When running on the WR map the power comes on slow but steady but on the YZ map it's wheelie time.
    Nearly there.....

I Just fitted a Gasser dual curve switch to my EXC200. Only $25 - a lot cheaper and better than the $75 off/on KTM single button. Has nifty no-brainer Rain/Sun icons on switch. No need to cut any wires, it's a plug and play caper but I ended up shortening the very long GG switch wires, just crimped on 2 new bullet connectors. No need to worry about which wires go where at the connection as switch is simply an open or closed circuit. I mounted the switch on R/H side between throttle and brake lever perch. Related to throttle, so made more sense to me on that side, and no fumbling around next to kill switch.

I think the dual curve ignition is only on '07 and later. Wires are the Grey to Black/White loop section that runs out of, then back into CDI. Wiring diagram in owner handbook different, shows Grey to Black/Grey for some reason. Suggest checking all wiring for chafing while you're there. I found a bad spot on section from generator to CDI.

Sorry, unable to describe effect as I'm still waiting for a @#$% piston kit (5 weeks and counting!?), but reports on KTMtalk indicate not a particularly big difference between settings. I figured anything at all that makes the job a bit easier on the slippery stuff (especially when knackered) is worth having though.

Looking forward to trying it out. Button goes on, button goes off, button goes o... Bike hits tree. Doh!

I have mounted a simple flick switch on mine, but I didn't want it on the bars so I mounted just above the CDI, It is very noticeable on mine alot more perky when in aggressive mode.

Switch cost me about 5 bucks.

hey great thread guys its now on my to do list. I've read about this but Havn't had the bike long enough to have a go, but now I know what switch to get etc.
I backed off the power valve a turn to suit me but his my mean I can put it forward and run two curves. Oh arn't these KTm's Great you can change power valve opening timings with a simple turn of a nut, Ignition curves with the flick of a switch etc

    Thanks!!!!

Update: Just ordered the switch cheers guys!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

Hey rick I never bother with turning the powervalve nut I just change the springs around , did you get the three springs with it?

Yep they are certainly good you can tune them very easily to suit your riding style and conditions, I tend to smooth mine out for racing and have every thing aggressive when i'm just playing around.

Haven't got the box yet with all the bits that went with it, so whatever spring he had in it is still in. He wanted real aggressive power so I would imagine its the lighter one that opens the power valve faster.
The power valve nut is real good once you get to know where its set, a turn either way on the day will make quite a difference. Of coarse this only controls when it opens not how fast as your spring changing does. But the last guy had it set so when you canned it along the flat it would raise the front wheel over your head in first, second and third. I've backed it off 1 turn so it holds the front about a meter or so off the ground under full power through first second and into third. About right for my skill level. I've got lots to learn between the power valve springs and nut settings and the dual curve ignition. I can see the day coming once I know exactly the settings are for the nut adjustment where I look at the trail condition and weather and give the power valve nut a 1/2 or full turn either way. Bloody good for a fiddler like me.

Haha its about usable power!! I'm the first to admit I was always tentative on the throttle cause the bloody CR always wanted to pull my arms out? I Liked my Cr250 though. I liked the 03 Ktm better and I love the 08Ktm. Once I can afford the correct springs for my fat arse it'll be brilliant!!

Riverhead: Teaching my daughter to ride the 150 so it'll be either my paddock in East Tmaki or a trip down to try the B loop with her at Thunder. Kids first Bugger it! A new bike, xmas and work a bit thin, has left the budget a bit tight. I'll talk to my son see if he wants to do it though, txt you if we go OK.

can someone explain how this tunable power valve works?

in theory the CR powervalve & ignition could be very tunable if someone were to dick around with it, seeing as it uses the throttle position to adjust the ignition map and power valve, in theory you could have some sort of variable resistor that works in conjunction with the tps sensor to give gentle maps / valving thru to the full on aggressive glory

    cheese? your domain?

Slightly more to it than a variable pot.

Should we research it adn build EFI for our bikes?
