Try to go for the 08 and above. They have been majorly upgraded from the 07-08. Doubt you will find a second hand 08/09 on trademe. Your only chance is to buy new.. My dad's has been keeping an eye out for the past few months. Nothing.
Talked to a couple of trust worth mechanics, they seem to think that the KTM parts are no more expensive than that of the japs. It's only the older models which have huge prices on piston kits etc. KTM also say you only have to change the piston and rings every 120hours. Pretty good _b
I also heard that you have to redo the fork seals every 30 hours.
120 hours!! thats pretty sweet, unfortunatly i have to buy second hand, and my budget only allows 5-6 grand, i cant justify having 14 grands worth of bike sitting in the garage collecting dust.ha ha ha. would be nice though.

i'm on my second one and absolutely love them, they are so versatile and can be ridden hard on the pipe or lugged around a gear or two higher. I have had no probs with the fork seals just make sure you clean around the dust seals every now and then. you certainly get a good run out of the pistons, most people can get 100 hrs quite comfortably depending on riding style and conditions, I just changed mine after 85hrs and it was still pretty mint, cost me $250 for the piston kit and most parts seem to be well priced but there are a few that seem expensive. My last one was an 03 but there were alot of changes in 04 so if you can get the latter model it would be good.
ive stretched my budget ot to $7500 hopefuly i can find a late model one for that, i realy want a 300 but a 250 2-stroke will be good too. gotta be a 2-stroke!!!!
If you dont mind kick start only, consider the gasgas 300 or 250 also.
nv motorcycles in morrinsville is the closest i believe...
just bought a 2005 KTM 300. looks mint, well looked after. within budget too!! cant wait to hit the trails and the mx track. thanks for the advice. BWAAAAAPP!!!!!
