if you go to a tint shop, most are pretty good - ask them to do the visor with an off cut. the repco stuff is crap. the guy at Tint-a Car did mine for a 6 pack of tuis.

if you want to tint your WINDSCREEN though, then you can only tint the top 5cm. read the regs, or you'll get pink/green stickered

Rofl at paying with beer. definately the best currency.

I agree with marty on the (il)legality of tinting a cage w/s I was under the impression the driver has to be visible at all times

actaully this site has all the infor you need

    http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/rules/glazin...-circular.html

half way down it says. *cough* *cough*

    Applying tinting to glazing
The earlier rule prohibited the application of tinted overlays on windscreens. This is unchanged in the revised rule.

However, the revised rule changes the law on the tinting of front side windows. The earlier rule prohibited the application of tint or clear film on front side windows to the left or right of the driver. This was in line with the practice, at the time, of most overseas jurisdictions.

As a result of reviewing the provisions, and taking account of changes in other jurisdictions, the revised rule now allows the tinting of front side windows, provided the overall level of VLT is not reduced to less than 35%.

The rule continues to allow (as in the earlier rule) the application of tint film in rear and rear side glazing. The rule sets no minimum VLT level for rear and rear side glazing, except that passenger cars (Class MA) must not be modified to the extent that the overall VLT is reduced below 35%. If rear or rear side glazing is modified with tint film, the rule requires the fitting of rear-view mirrors on both sides of the vehicle.

I have a Falcon stationwagon here at the moment and the rear windows are so bloody dark you can't see inside - hang on...there are no rear seats....there is a box of rubber gloves and a deodoriser spray.I think I might just get into this nice bag I found in the back and lie down for a rest....

tinting the windscreen of a car is ilegal!
35% is the legal limit for standard passenger vehicles (cages) things like vans, hearses, even trade station wagons can have any darkness of tint they like rite through to painting them black!

mirror tints are always illegal (distraction to other drivers or sum crap)

i'd be of th mind that bikes are a diff story tho! your looking through your visor ( no tinting regulations there ) and there is a range of after market tinted windscreens available, again right through to solid colours (are these legal?)

maybe if you call it a wind deflector its a whole different story........

bt yeah repco/supercheap.... sell rolls of tint stuff, so duz a dude on trade me. usually in 35%, 20% and 5% (meaning % of light that gets through...)

If you are refurring to the windscreen of your car, then yes the roll so tint from repco etc do the job fine. General rule is that it cant come any lower than the sunvisors in full "down" position.

If you are wanting to tint the screen on your bike dont waste your time with tint roll as it wont go over the sperical curves of the screen. Instead remove the screen and muy some transperant black spray (used for tinting car tail lights by "boy racers"). Spray this on thick to your motorcycle screen (clean it first and let it dry between coats).

The problem I have is that the windshield has some scratches. I was hoping that the tint roll will help to hide them. Not too sure that I want to spray the 'shield. What is the problem with the curves of the screen??

They are double curves. The screens curve left to right and top to bottom. The tint won't. You'll get wrinkles and bubbles.

Can you use something like a hairdryer to shrink it, or will that make a mess of it?

Local professional window tinter down this way said the stuff won't adhere to polycarbonate anyway, as it is engineered to have the same thermal expansion as glass.

Clear plastics can be safely “buffed out” to remove scratches and restore visibility.* A variable speed buffer, synthetic wool pads and cutting compound are all that is required.* The two factors involved with doing it right:

    Light Pressure.

Low RPM. 3M Super Duty cutting compound, available from most stores selling automotive paint, is recommended.

    Follow these Steps:

Wash surface to remove any built up dirt or sand.

Squirt a little cutting / buffing compound on the wool pad, spread it on the surface area to be treated and with light sweeping motions polish the surface.
Too strong a pressure or holding the buffer in one spot can burn and ruin the material. If doing a large area, periodically remove the cutting compound buildup from the pad with the “spur” made for this purpose, available from the cutting compound supplier.

After cut-polishing, finish the job with 303 Aerospace Protectant.
    On a large area, do a 3’x 3’ area at a time.
On the area to be polished, mist on a little 303. With the buffer and a fresh wool pad, with the buffer on low rpm spread the 303 and then turn up the rpm (never more than 1800) and polish it in until dry, constantly moving the buffer in a sweeping motion.
Again, too much pressure or holding the buffer in one spot can burn & ruin the material.
    Looks like it's a protectant.
It gives instructions on how to remove the scratches anyway.
