Unhappy Tales from the low side...

Woah! I had a bit of fun on the way to work on Friday.

I was heading rrrright round the corner down between the Community Constables office and the Sunnynook Shops, when all of a sudden things got a bit exciting...

I've never been too great at maths but I think the equation ran a bit like this:
(A little too much Lean Angle + A dash of excess Throttle) / Pesky little loose stones = Seat of the pants road luging. That's the lesson I think I learnt anyway.

Scary thing was it was actually a bit of fun, the bike goes down in a split second and starts sliding away from me. I start sliding along after it in hot pursuit, after about 4 - 5 meters the little CBR's wheels hit the kerb corner and stopped it dead. When I caught up to the little bugger I lifted my legs and slid right on up on top of it. GOTCHA! I doubt it would have been that enjoyable if I had been hurt in anyway, but thanks to the miracles of safety gear, I was miraculously (funny that -ed) unhurt.

There's a few holes in the old Cordura though. So much for the old "Yeah mate, she's good stuff this, just as good in a crash as leather" sales pitch. It was really the plastic/foam padding that did the saving. If it wasn't for them I would have been doing a bit of bone carving.

Anyway I got back on my feet and picked her up, all I had to clean up out of the gutter was the smashed left mirror and the end of my clutch lever. The best part was I had a steady line of concerned onlookers and well-wishers that had been behind the Giveway sign waiting to turn right out of the road I was turning in to. It's good to know our four wheeled cousins really do care, one girl even parked out of sight in the shopping center car park and gave me a bit of a fright when she leaped through the garden to see if I was alright and even offered me a ride to work. But just as this angel appeared the CBR roared (or what ever you call the noise that 250s make) back into life. I thanked her for her trouble but politely declined her offer, placed my feet on my now upwardly angled pegs and rode on.

Needless to say I've got a bit of a project on my hands to get the bike back on the road. If any of you guys have any bits and pieces for a 1992 MC22 CBR250RR lying around I've posted my shopping list of the part I'm in the market for here:

Hopefully I'll catch some of you guys on a KB ride sooner rather than later

Least you and the bike are unhurt (for the most part) As long as you can laugh at the crash then it's sweet. Hope you get the ride fixed up.

    Over rated that Cordura stuff.
I was all for it until I had a spill, wore through to the foam padding on a minimal slide [ from what I can remember]
Leather jacket- cant even tell where I slid.

That's why I bought leathers for my new bike. Seeing what people have walked away from when wearing leathers shows they are the safest option.

Leather all the way, after seeing TwoSmokers after extensive testing I would say they are the only way to go.

And after Enigma's crash in the weekend there was barely a mark on his leathers!

Only until they get hold of you. Then they do their best to remove all that fun from your life (or so I've heard)

you never know that, Lim.. (get back to work!)
    What was she like NC?
If I had just trashed the bike, I'd be looking for comfort, but yeah PT, I've heard that too.. tread with caution - both girls and the road..

Ha, lucky you weren't commuting naked!

Hmmm, leathers for motorcycles. Could be on to something here, saves grinding away all that expensive plastic.

Yeah she wasn't what I would call a stunner, not a bad bod though, if I had more time I might have gone for a hug. She said she was watching me go round the corner and wondering just how low we bikers can go just before I bailed. At the time I thought she was talking about lean angles, but now I'm not so sure...

Forgive me if this is a repeat, but I lost the 125 in Remuera Rd years ago (one of those half concrete/half tarmac zones in the wet). After finally letting go of it I flipped onto my feet (leather soled shoes with heel & toe plates) and literally skiied down the road in a crouch then stood up and ran as the curb approached. Saddest thing......
no audience except God. Bet he enjoyed it too!
