Aprilia launches super lightweight RSV1000
The Aprilia stand at the Milan show could have been a surprise-free zone, since the firm had already launched its 2004 RSV Mille Factory and ‘R’ bikes. But it wouldn’t do to turn up at the home show without anything new, and the firm had kept this new special RSV under wraps.
The Nera is festooned with lightweight exotic materials, including carbon fibre, titanium and magnesium, all of which drop the dry weight to just 175kg – 10kg less than the standard Factory model. The chassis is also top-spec: the upside-down front forks, rear shock and steering damper are all by Ohlins, while the Brembo radial-mount brake calipers bite on 320mm floating discs. Wheels are forged magnesium parts, and are nearly 2 kg lighter even than the forged aluminium wheels on the standard RSV.
The engine hasn’t escaped attention either. New pistons, lighter titanium fasteners and magnesium cases raise power output to 140bhp@10,000rpm – a smidgeon more than standard, but with reduced mass.
There’s no official word on price yet, but expect it to be around £20,000. The Nera is limited to 200 units too, so you’d better get in touch with your dealer sharpish if you’re interested.

and just on that little *sub-tpoic* hehe, have you guys noticed how power hasnt come anywhere near as far as brakes? like, seriously.. brakes and even suspension have come whole worlds further forward in my mind when comparing the old Z1 to the modern ZX10 etc.

anyways i know the Z1 only had a measly like, 86bhp or somthing like that? and it got 2 240kmph i think? or 220 or somthing? but shit i doubt it could get to that speed on puke's back straight as it would need half the straight just to stop! hah.. single caliper front end brakes for the first model...
and a Z1000 is not a Z1, the Z1 is a 900.

Silly (or sensible???) me, turned down a ride on a Z1300. Now that was an impressive bike!!!It was 10 years ago, I was in my early twenties and only weighed in at something like 8 stone (ie featherweight) and felt that it was just a little too much for me to handle.

look a little closer. That frame is something well outside the square and the smaller details (hard to see on that pic but definitely there) put it well above an SP2. With only 200 units being made, you'd think it was the next generation RSV-SP? Perhaps Aprilia have designs on SBK again? hard to see how with the new japanese 4 cylinder monsters coming out I guess. Or maybe its for BEARS racing? Seems a damn small market for that sort of R&D input though.

yeah? shit, i had a sit and a ride on the back of the old mans Z1300 about 10 years ago! :P and shit i would have wieghed less then you, and was willing to ride it! but maybe thats just hte mind of an 8yo.. hahaha!
