No petrol available in Taihape 21st February to 1st June

    .
    .

We called into BP Taihape for gas yesterday on our way home from Paeroa. BP is the only gas station in Taihape. As from midnight last night, it is closing until the 1st of June, so there will be no petrol available between Waiouru and Mangaweka for that length of time (a distance of about 40kms).

The old BP is being redeveloped into a 24-hour BP Connect - on the same site.

More excellent planning on the part of corporate free enterprise! Bring back the socialist 5 year plan!

Thanks for the warning. On the way to Taupo this weekend, so will remember to fill up at Mangaweka.

Thanks Linda - having just done that trip, and cutting it very fine between fill ups, it's good to know in case I come that way again next time I invade Wellington.

Must be a real piss off for the Taihape locals -- a minimum 40km round trip to gas up...

Yes, quite some time ago. It's boarded and chained and the signage has been removed.

    Cool

Shit I wouldnt want to be living in Taihape at the moment then...

Shit 40km to get gas and 40 kms back home.... thats a blardy long trip to get gas. Bet they have all gone out and got big petrol drums and filled them up... Surely BP should come up with something to help out the locals.... Thats just not on.

So from 31st Feb to 1st June.... all the locals wil be staying at home going no where but watching DVD's fark thats 3 months of going nowhere.

It's about 15km to Mangaweka, so for the locals it's about a 30km round trip to get gas. Yeah, I really feel for them - it's not like they can do any other business much at Mangaweka, other than have a coffee and a piece of cake in a DC3.

Yes, the Mobil station on the north end of town would have closed up probably around a year ago? And the one that used to be opposite the BP (was it a Shell?) closed many years ago.

The good thing for the locals is that once BP reopens, they'll be able to get a latte or a snack in the middle of the night (God, does my life really revolve around food??!!)
