    New bike, high fuel consumption!

    I have recently purchased a bike, 2nd hand, but only had 200km on it since new (genuine).

    I filled her up when I got her a few weeks ago, topped up today.

    I have gone through 10 ltrs for only 113 kms.

    The bike spec & reviews say 17-20km/lt. Is this becuase it is new. I have done some small trips but most of kms travelled was open road at 80km/hr.

    Any thoughts ?

    No loss of power noticed.

    Bike is Hyosung GT650 Comet. It is restricted to 34HP.

    are you saying your bike is 'restricted' to 34hp or does the bike only put out 34hp?

    113km in a few weeks, yes that is a real problem.

    I suggest you man up and tell her you are the boss and you will ride when you damn well please!

    Bike specs are sorted out in controlled conditions.....your fuel consumption will vary depending on load(weight) on bike your riding style and fuel you use....Note if you spend your time running around town you will use more fuel

    for example with my triumph 91=13/l
    95=16k/l
    98=19.5k/l

    No all this was worked out with the bike not exceeding 110kph and the rider the only excess weight on the bike

    don't rev it like a four cyclinder bike or a little 250 to get it going places...you can chug along and low speed in a relitivly high gear and pull away cleanly..try running down to low revs in a high gear then opening her up..and keep trying to you feel the bike jerking a lil as you pull away...and you will find how low it goes...V-twins are strong engines and are very flexable in torque delivery...so it will relish in loading the engine...much more than being rev'ed.

    cowpoos has a good point

    Me... I'd LOVE to score 17-20km/L. I sit at 13-15km/L

    My experience is that fuel economy rapidly increases during the first 1,000km.

    That is a seriously worrying fuel consumption....my SVS (650) does double that and did right from day 1.....I would be seeking professional advice if it was mine....

    I'm not familiar with your ride, does it have a choke and is it fully home?

    As a new tight engine it will consume more than normal but yours does seem excessive.

    Good luck.
    Oh bugger

    Did you rejet it to get 34hp? For licence laws or something?
