    Desert Storm January?

    so how many of ya are comming down to desert storm? january 17 and 18
    im heading down with the spectrum mcs crew.

    what are the tracks like? are they similar to the other epic events rides like trail blazer etc? relatively technical?
    we may just go where no ones been

    The classic NZ 2 day trail ride on Mount Ruapehu. Featuring 160km of trail, camping, catering and evening entertainment. This is the biggest epic event and attracts around 1000 riders per day.

    DATE
    The next Desert Storm event is going to take place on 17 and 18 January 2009.

    Friday. The vehicle height restriction is 4.25 metres to fit under the railway power lines. Campervans and buses are welcome. Campsite has marquee, toilets, hot showers and separate quiet and noisy camping zones.

    REGISTRATION
    Friday from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am to 3:00pm

    TRACK TIMES
    Saturday and Sunday Tracks Open 9:00am. Tracks Closed 3:30pm There is no sign out. Tracks may close earlier if required.

    BRIEFING
    There is no mass verbal briefing, however all riders must read and/ or understand, the written briefing given out.

    RULES
    There are significant risks involved in trail riding so all riders must obey the Epic Events Trail Ride Rules for Riders. (See www.epicevents.co.nz) as well as specific Desert Storm rules including no dogs or drugs on site.

    FIRES
    Due to the summer season and fire risk, there are no fires allowed on site!

    FUEL
    The maximum trail length will be 65km. There is no fuel stop. Some riders may need to take some spare fuel.

    CATERING
    You can pre order meals prepared by Waiouru Army Caterers. There will be espresso coffee and cold drinks 4 sale.

    ACCOMODATION
    Camp on site for free or stay at Waiouru or Ohakune. For off site accommodation, see http://www.epicevents.co.nz/

    SUPPORT
    We provide excellent medical and bike recovery support including 50 staff, 20 Sweep riders and 4 Paramedics.

    MECHANICAL
    2 mechanics will be on site to provide a mechanical service. There will be limited parts and accessories available to buy. Note this is not a full motorcycle shop and normal charges for labour apply.

    RIDING GEAR
    Compulsory items; motorcycle helmet, leather boots, long trousers & long sleeved top. Recommended items: Gloves, goggles, body armour, polypropylene thermal clothing and rain jacket. (Ruapehu can get cold even in summer!) Not allowed; Short sleeves. No gumboots, except for Mini riders on the Mini tracks.

    FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
    All riders riding the red arrowed trails must carry a fire extinguisher 0.3 litre size minimum! Riders on kids and novice tracks do not need extinguishers. This is a forestry requirement and will be strictly enforced. Extinguishers available by pre order.

    GAMES
    Motorcycle competitions will take place from 5-6:30pm. Open to riders 16 years or over, 2 or 4 wheels. There are prizes down to third place in each competition. Enter on the day by 4pm.at the info desk.

    ENTERTAINMENT
    On Friday and Saturday night from 7pm there will be the latest DVD's playing on a big screen.

    Super excited Taken leave for the friday before and the monday after even. Think it matters if I write one bike on the registration and show up with a different one? Might change bikes between now and then...

    Nice pix and it looks a whole lot of fun. Have to agree with all the others in the other thread, the water shot looks cool. I love (warm) river crossings! What kinda bike you aiming for?

    Hopefully can get some dollars together. Its not one to miss, will be my 4th and I highly recommend camping there as you get to experience the whole of desert storm. Heaps of fun.

    that water is friggin cold, wouldn't mind a 250 2smoker it all comes down to money, problem is I don't have any

    Hmmm, maybe I'll leave the snorkel on the KDX after all. That crossing looks
    pretty deep.
    Some of the smaller bikes would have to be carried over?
