I think we left Reefton about 5, were filling up about 4 though. There was a guy on a black Kawasaki with his daughter on the back who was fizzing and a couple of others, Mr black Kawasaki was doing the clipons too

Back at the Reefton Mobil at 5pm and left at 5:45pm.
There was a dude with his daughter? on the back of a sportbike who was buzzing and said he'd done the clipon's? (as Jatz the flying fingers has just said...)

    That KLR can move....

    Stu

You certainly earned some points for the KLR in the Tiresome DR/KLR Thread. It can certainly go, you passed me and Grant (XT600 & GS800) round Cheviot and we'd been circulating through up to that point I'd never done the Picton to Havelock road and yes the K270 now looks well worn on the edges!
Definitely get a two day pass from the Boss next year as the Southern Route also looked good and also a screen for the front as 1200k's of windblast is interesting..
Well done for getting the award.
    Cheers Bish

ps It looks like XT's (not mine!) can certainly hustle from this Youtube vid!

Ahem, it does at times. The DR-Z250 has also given the 600 & 1000 bikes the hurry-up along Qn Charlotte Dr on occasion. Sometimes a scalpel (however blunt) is more effective than an axe!

Will have to give this run a blast next year.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Yes, but I got my times wrong by a little bit

I'll follow you then Werewolf. Can't decide weather to take the DR or the Triumph.
Trumpy would be fasterer but DR has more adjustment in sitting/standing to stretch legs (try standing on the triumph and it's gunna get messy)

Well done BTW redKLR, good effort

Thanks Bish, it was good to catch up on Sunday after the ride, I must admit to feeling a bit jaded by the time I got back to Timaru that night ( 1438 kms total on day 2 after 1297 kms the day before was starting to take it's toll..... )

Anyway, I thought you might like to see this video I shot on the KLR about 18 months ago.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZwHNaAgiH0

The guy following on the GSX1000 is Mark, the same guy that got the 150km ticket on the TT2000 at Lake Pukaki on Saturday morning, ( Instant loss of lisence and $630 fine ) and before you yell about our travelling distance, we do ride together a lot, and that is probably our most travelled piece of road, the twisties between Geraldine and Fairlie.....

We were close drafting so I could get some good footage of Mark, when at around 39 seconds into the video, I cranked it over just a tad too far, and BAM ! the sidestand tripoded the bike, kicked up a few sparks and gave the rear wheel a wee nudge sideways......

Mark pulled back quickly and couldn't stop laughing....

But as you can see, those IRC110GP's grip pretty well

Shot with a wee Oregon scientific Action Cam strapped to my leg....

    Your thoughts ?

OK on seal, OK on gravel but just wish they were a little softer compound.

Stu - you certainly gave the stand a good clunk the IRC do work well - I had several sets of their TR8's on my 18" wheel in the UK and they did the biz off-road and on... nearly as grippy as a Pirelli trials tyre (MT43) but lasted about 3x as long!

Good cam - you'll have to get some more adv footage with it...

But sorry, I didn't even take a camera on this trip, hardly had the time for a leak let alone shots of the scenery......

But there seems to have been a bit of interest in this, so I will be posting a full ride report in the next few days

Have you sent back the yellow anorak yet ;-)

    Stu

    Cheers, Stu

If it was all sealed roads, I would take the Trophy no hesitation. It just cruises along so nicely, standing to stretch is no problem, but for me it was v.comfortable. Did several Grand Challenges, Southern Cross rallies and similar rides on it.
    Cheers,
    Colin
