I'm in for this run as well.
Anyone got spare cabin space at Otorahanga & Taumaranui for me? Please PM me. Otherwise I'll book these in a few days. I have taken Friday & Monday off, so plenty of time both sides of the ride.
K/slider - any firmer idea of the condition of the Matahiwi track? That area is papa / clay. Bog holes? How aggressive are we talking on tyres?.
As others have said, done the Forgotten Highway (& 42nd Traverse) before, and River Road many times. Both the F/H & R/Rd are well known tourist paths, so less challenging these days. I understand that the F/H is being progressively sealed....
Life shouldnt end at the grave well presented but rather, slide in sideways totally worn out yelling "shit that was a great ride!"

Pete, sounds as though a number of Wellingtonians are definites for this. I've managed a leave pass from Friday - Monday so, assuming it's okay with everyone else, am keen to tag along.
JG might come down from Auckland and meet up with us in Otorohanga, he should have his new F800GS by then.
I'll give you a ring.
Moto are you able to meet us on the Parapara road it makes the journey a bit longer but gives the river road virgins a taste of the upper gravel.
Looks like Garry is in to.
Nothings set in stone.
Cheers Pete.

Right this is what I have found out.
I have to sign a indemnety for us lot,the gates will be open at both ends if we need to turn back it wont be a problem.
The track can be driven over in a car when dry but is a bitch on a quad when wet and doesnt follow the road anymore but is now a farm track most of the way. The cocky says it is easier to navagate from Matahiwi {river road} to the Paraparas,so it may be bloody boring, or a repeat of the south coast.
Is there any consens {ideas} of accomodation for friday night.
