I will be on the ride, have got the spare bed in the cabin with BMWRSNUT. Not sure if I will join the main ride on Saturday or join Mark but will let you know MXNUT.

Dave we are starting early on the sunday morning and not doing much gravel rds that day in order to finish at Owango by 2.00pm at the latest. That should give you enough time to get back to welly before 8.00pm

Fishers track is all down hill ( not steep ) in the direction we are doing it and with decent knobblys on you will find the 42nd no problem on the DR. When i went through a few weeks ago there was a 4wd club going through with SHINY road going vehicles and they were having no problems.
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

MotoXNut & K Slider (and others) - I inend to leave my decision re Matahiwi and Central Plateau tracks til Thurdsay evening - I should still be able to get a TKC rear tyre fitted to my beemer if necessary. Key thing for us all - I submit - is to enjoy the ride and ride to our abilities

I agree with you on this one, if it is going to be very wet the 42 could become quite tricky with the river crossing and the few steep sections.
But the fishers trail would be an easier option to complete.

I am going to stick with the Saraha tires and pick the trails to match the conditions.

I will be doing the same with regard to the Matahiwi track as i beleive that it will be the most challenging if wet, and i dont wont to ride all that way and then have to do it on my own

Metservice long range forcast has improved since this morning so hopefully it will stay fine for us ( fingers & left ball crossed ).

Cheers Stephen. If we are back in Welly before 8pm at latest that should work for me!

If it is raining or wet...

I will definitely be looking for a spare bunk if anyone wants to let me in?
    Pretty please anyone?
Despite this weather, the traverse is still dry, it has been a very dry summer and the drainage is good.
With the amount of us on the traverse it will be fine as there is enough of us to lift, drag, carry and the creeks won't be too high to walk the bikes through if necessary. I would recommend that as well as the last time I did it on my Husaberg, the walk through helped as there are a few big nasty stones under that water.
We will be cutting it up and it will be cloudy, so walking could be the best option unless you are the first lucky bugger through!

Helpful comments Mark - re the accom send a PM to JunkmanJoe - I believe he may be able to help.

Re the 42nd - you up for pushing me and the Yellow pig up that steep sand trap I struggled up coming out of one of the creeks - (the one with the sharp turn following a steep descent) the last time we did this together?

You'll have me bringing the DR or fitting the TKC to the bimmer if you're not careful

Look forward to seeing you again - Oh and yes we'll need to be alert for any wire hawsers strung across tracks on the 42nd eh

In fact I did it there and back, I loved it so much. I took three guys from Switzerland through it on XT660's and they loved it! Wanted to pay me too...lol
I met them in Taumarunui when I went in for a tummy fueling...I convinced them and they all loved it!
Anyway, you will have more fun of course on the little machines but it is do-able, and yes, we will all pull the Sherman up the hill....
Just ride it and use the throttle, at least you know what is in store out of the corners...right?
    Oh, that hawser has gone.....
I will have to look out for other hidden gems this time...

Sorry guys but I am now a non-starter for this ride!

Had follow-up call with my doc today, after describing particular area of pain I was having AND finding out it was in an area NOT x-rayed last Thursday , he called me in asap. Apparently deep tissue damage, he highly recommends I take another 10 days rest at least and riding a bike for hours and particularly on gravel roads & tracks would be very unwise, let alone manhandling the bike in any awkward situations would probably result in more damage to ligaments, muscles etc.

So basically I am gonna take his advice and get healed up properly as those roads & tracks aren't going anywhere and I have a big goal of doing the South Island Invasion ride so don't wanna risk anything more serious happening at this stage.

Will miss not catching up with you guys and of course hope you all have a wicked weekend! Will look forward to the reports and pics and video(?)!!!

Sorry to not be coming but feel i need to follow docs advice especially as this is an ACC claim, so HTFU pills aren't gonna be any use!

If anyone still needs a cabin spot, get hold of Junkmanjoe as he will want to try fill my Fri & Sat nite spots! If he can't, no worries, I'll see him right cash wise of course!
    Cheers, Dave
