i'm flying a 172 now that does 2500 fpm at 70kts. it's awesome..

just got back from an IFR training flight to TGA and back. very bumpy and rainy it was.

Cool - ain't it the greatest!! Have you done instruments only yet. Now that's a real brown trouser excercise. No visuals at all (you wear a funny hat that blocks out the outside world), save for your instrument panel.

well, someone i know (they arent that credible) tried telling me that it is perfectly legal to ride on the back of a ute, is this true??

I know that if a car doesn't have enough seatbelts for all of someones children, then it is legal for them (if they are over 8 - i think) to not wear seatbelts if all of them are used (5 children plus mother, in a station wagon with 5 seatbelts) but have never heard of this ute thigy

To memory if anyone in the vehicle is not wearing a seatbelt this is legal but only if the car is traveling at less than 25km/h (Go check in the road code it's there somewhere).

Im not sure if this is a ltsa or a polica issue, but il post it anyway, Ive got on my desk 4 tyre valve caps that have a LED and light sensor in them and they light up when the wheels on a car/bike turn when its dark outside.
If you were pulled over while your bike had these on, would you be ticketed?
I assume this would be considered part of that law about car neons how your not allowed to let the light source be seen from outside the car?
Il post a pic later when its dark to illustrate what I mean.

Not illegal from a safety point of view, but very illegal under the Mistreatment of Motorcycles Act, 1996. Subsection 24 relating to crimes against acceptable motorcycle fashion. Punishible by fine and/or imprisonment.

Yes, it's quite unsettling at first! Ohhhh, now you've gone and got me all plane crazy again, and I can't do nought for a good few months!

That would be something you have to check with LTSA. My only issue with them would be that they would get pinched in no time and then I'd have to do another hour of bloody paperwork to report the damn theft.

Absolutely not! If all the seatbelts are used and you are jamming more passengers in unrestrained then you are overloading and allowing people to ride in an unsafe position. You would get no mercy from me if I found you driving around with unrestrained kids.

i'm not sure about the 40/40 thing. can't say i've done that. the 172 flap only goes to 30 degrees, 152 goes to 40 though. i had the 172 hovering overhead lake karapiro the other day - 20kt head wind, 1700rpm, full flap, right on the stall buzzer. called atc and they verified my speed on radar was ZERO knots! it was a hoot!

Heinous crime against fashion they may be, but I reckon that if they served to make a bike more visible, they'd be a good idea. (says the dork who rides wearing black helmet and armour and doesn't even own a retroreflective vest )

I read the old thread re neons and checked up LTSA's site - they've mentioned that under the new lighting regs, neons ("cosmetic lighting" in their terminology) will not be banned but will be regulated - light source not visible, angled downwards etc.

I can multiple bins from bikers getting mesmerized watching their ginkley wheels going round and round
