    another close call/crash

This evening heading home from work I had a close encounter of the automotive type.
straight bit of road. Headlight on. riding at the speed limit.
Hands covering the brake and clutch lever.
aproaching a sideroad on my left with a car heading towards me slowing and pulling into the middle of the road. Cars on the left of him on the same road.
I got eye contact with the dude so all good.
Then he hauls the wheel round and turns in front of me.
On the brakes as hard as I can and down a gear the ol XJ is making them lil screech screech noises of a tyre about to skid.
Almost stopped but not quite I plowed into the side of the car with my front tyre denting the door. The bars twist bars sideways. Feet slam on the ground and Im sitting there staring in the window at the guys missus.
They stop and check the tyre colored dent in the side of their shiney blue commodore.
His excuse--"ohh I thought you would stop for me"
    Sheesh.
Damage to the bike-.005mm of tyre rubber removed from the front tyre. damage to me -A couple of sore feet from the suden slam on the ground.
    fuck that was close.
ANYPLACE ANYTIME -IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.

There's that perceived threat thing again.

    Good you're OK and upright.

You know those emergancy glass-breaking hammers... the red things that clip into the holders... could you mount one of those to a fuel tank very easily?

an event like this might then go:

Brake, swerve, blow out their window, accelerate like hell

The only way pricks like this learn, is if you hurt them in the pocket Tony.

    That'll teach the b*stard

It's not often you hear about bike vs. car and the bike comes out better than the car...
Glad to hear you're ok, Frosty.

Bloody bastard. Serves him right though, should have taken his mirror with you
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Jerry Springer special.....You got eye contact and he still pulled out.
Wonder if he'll look more closely from now on.
Glad you and the bike are ok.

Good to see you're ok mate. What a total F@#$wit. Still people pull out in front of trains so I guess he didn't see you as a challenge.

    Take care.

Umm thanks for the concern her folks. In the light of day a couple of things,
Thank gosh I ride mostly fingers covering the levers -makes up for my slow reactions. Thank gosh for decent rubber and a bunch of panic stop practice on this bike.
Ohh --and yea aint it cool that in a bike/car encounter car came off second best
anybody oyut n about in auckland today -look out for a blue late 90's comodore with a big black dent in the passenger door.
Ohh the capper on it all--Last I heard his missus saying to him as I rode off-
"I told you not to go'
