    I can’t believe this…

I got a 2001 Softail last week and called today at Star Insurance for a quote. A pretty annoyed guy answer me call … was something like I had disturbed his other pretty important business, what ever it was.
So after all the details he asked me if is garaged on my property. Short answer, no. Long answer, parked between the car and the fence, inside my fenced yard, alarmed, with a sensor light on it, bolted on the concrete, with me working at home. When I’m not using it is in one of my friends garage with alarm and a car parked in front.
    The next line:
“We r not interested if u don’t have a garage”
    And that’s all.
    Not even:
“ We can ensure it only for accidents or on road or…`
I’m not afraid that the bike will be stolen cause is almost impossible, so I would be more than glad to ensure it just on road, but…for that I need a garage!
That’s a great standard of professionalism and respect for customers
Thanks a lot you good man!

You look like you are 30+...give ClassicCover in Hamilton a call.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yep, I was always insured with STAR until last year.... They did not want to insure me as I didnt have a garage. Swann now insure all of my bikes and do so at a very reasonable price!!

I got a similar line from some cock at Star.

After some investigation, it turns out he'd just got his L plate and a 250, and had every right to be jealous of a 22yo riding a GSXR1000K3.

I rang up kiwibike and after explaining my situation I got a much more reasonble response from Dave - which was garage it when at home, use a disk lock or similar when your not. Not to mention that the premium and excess was cheaper.

Do Kiwibike do track insurance? I know Swann do. Something to consider if you are interested in track riding.

What I love is how they don't like to insure if it's not in a garage.

Hello? If my bike was 100% safe from every possible harm that might conceivably come to it, I wouldn't be fucking trying to get insurance for the bike.

    Solved the problem.

Bought a BMW. Nobody with any sense tries to steal one.

When i enquired in November 2007 I was told over the phone that they would insure but was going to cost a shitload more as they had just had new policy implemented nationwide to cover the amount of bike thefts in Auckland. Basically was if you didnt have a garage then the premium was skyocketed.

    Im with Swann now.

Yep, exactly the same time as me.... As usual the arseholes (in this case thieves) ruin it for everyone else. You *have* to understand where the insurance companies are coming from, doesnt mean its fair to everyone though....

Yes, they do cover for trackdays, but only certain approved setups. For instance I know they cover MotoTT and Suzuki NZ trackdays, you just need to notify them in advance so they can give you the yay or nay. Last I knew they DONT cover kiwitrackdays as they don't/weren't scrutineering bikes before letting them out on the track.

star are way over priced anyway. i was insured with them with the virago. they were charging me $500/year [or $50 over 10 months i think] when that insurance ran out, i got a quote from kiwibike which was a good $200/year LESS.

the only good thing about star was they had 2 free breakdown call outs a year, one of which they allowed me to use when mum locked her keys in the boot one time.
