    Bikes Only?

Just looking at SpankMe's sig where it says "I have never driven a car ! and I never will !!" and was thinking about how I got my motorbike licence at 18 and my car licence at around 34 - I hadn't any real need to have a cage licence up to that point.

Who else in the current readership has only a bike licence or has held their bike licence for significantly longer than their car licence? Or even just been riding bikes unlicensed long than they've been driving cars (why discriminate on the grounds of a piece of paper/plastic?)

For years I never bothered getting a car licence on the grounds that I had all the transport I needed and the licence to ride it. The boss started making noises about me needing a cage licence for work even though my original duties did not involve travelling around and I dug in my toes over the cost - said the company should pay if they wanted me to have a licence for work purposes. Ended up geting the licence (at my own cost) after valiantly stalling for over a year.

I've had a bike license (full) since I was 17 and only just last december got a cage full. I'll be the first to admit it is sometime more useful having a cage at times such as moving etc but I've manged to get by without a cage until recently I've had the use of my parents one while they are overseas for a couple years.

Driving cars (the right ones, on the right roads) can be fun too, so I'm glad I have both.

I started riding and driving around the same time (15), but got my full car licence (@ 15) a few months before my full bike licence (@ 16), and my truck licence not until about 9 years after that.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Had to get the cage lisence before the bike becouse you have to do it that way in the states. Might be getting my HT lisence soon for a job I might be getting. Have an interview tomorrow for some delivery work.

Bummer, dude, should be the other way 'round! Bike licence first, survive a year on full licence and then get your car licence

Good luck in your job interview.... all the best.

    License's...
I got my full Car license first age 17 I think,
then about 18 months later I got my full bike license.
A few years ago I got my full HT just before they changed the rules.

I got the bike after I wrote my car off (rolled it three times and it landed on its wheels) and then needed wheels to get to work, so I went and brought me bike then went and got the license after riding around on the bike for a few weeks.

I'm with you there Wolf. Not only would it teach fuckwit cage drivers some road/bike awareness, but the Darwinian theory would kick in and those not capable of riding safely would be wiped out leaving the roads clear for the more competent of our species.

I got both my car and bike licences when I was 17 (minimum age in the UK). Although I think you can ride a 50cc moped from 16 :spudwhat:

Most of my years I’ve been a cage driver and a weekend rider, primarily because my job involved a lot of travelling up and down the UK, particularly for comunting to our London and surrounding area offices.

    Drove a tractor single-handed at age 7.
Drove a truck at age 9.
Rode a motorcycle at age 13.
Drove a car for the first time (easiest thing I'd ever driven) and got my car licence at age 15.
Got all my HT licences at age 19.
Got my full motorcycle licence at age 45.

OK, so it takes some people a while to come to their senses...

If I had time and money I would like to have a licence for all vehicles, air/water crafts etc etc. At the moment I only have classes 1 and 6 on my licence tho...

I got my restricted licence for car and bike when I was about 16 then I only got my full just a few months ago for car and a month ago for bike.

You were a bit of a late starter - must be cos you are such a young fella.

I have been told my first driving experience was at 2 when I took the handbrake off the farm-workers car (left on slope to roll start!!) and cruised a corner and into a laurel hedge. Drove the landrover around the farm from before 5. Sat license in landrover in Blenheim on Xmas eve (don't recommend it) when 17, HT license at 21 and bike license when 25 (didn't have bikes on the farm ). Been riding now 25yrs.

Been riding the bike so much lately, jumped in the Safari today, had to stop myself leaning into first corner and almost ran off the road cause went into it TOO fast.
