The jump to a big bike?

ok. so theres four hundred and ninty four thousand (roughly) threads on jumping up to bigger bikes. Well fuck it im not gonna ask and ive just gone and done it. Now lets see who is right. nay sayers who say 1000cc bikes are death traps or that we all secretly have the skills of rossi, mccoy and stoner blended together. Hopefully i can figure out a poll to predict my fate.

Ive gone and got me a nice 954 to replace the old vfr400. Am i going to die??? lets find out.

Backround:

Ive ridden for about over 3 years now. had a vt250 for a bit that a mate wrote off and then got a vfr400 nc21. Had that for a couple of years. learnt that a 400 v4 goes faster than a v twin early on. but i survived. Never pulled over. crashed on the road twice (doing silly things, not dumb things).

Raced a 400 this year (nc30/35 bitsa thingy).

Im young(ish), would classify myself as a bit of an idiot, and have a history of crashing on first encounters (first road race, first street race).

Personally i think a 1000 (well its pretty close) is stupid for the road. Its far to grunty to use and is just gonna chew through money and prob. license points. but i tested one the other day and it was the most fun ive had in a very long time. plus you cant have a 600 cause they are ugly till the newer ones and i have a hatred for 650's (im a 400 f3 rider, what do you expect). but might as well own one for a bit before getting something gorgious (SP2, uuuhhhhhhhhh)

Off for a trackday sat. at ruapuna and then ride back to dunedin (maybe depending on death occuring or not) hopefully to return to work (again depending on death).

Ill report my findings at the end of the weekend... maybe

Nice work what year cbr rr did you get? ive got my eyes set on a 2002 model monica one. They are very very nice looking bikes. How ever a bit out of my skill range. Goodluck on the track.

Went from a push bike to a 1200cc rocket , nearly wiped out on the first corner then I remembered to countersteer, never looked back.
Have respect for the bike, and your life!!

its an 02 as well. yea the konica minolta one online is pretty cheap. would wanna see it and ride it though. thats what put me off.

haha yea. tried that on a 400 from the push bike like vt. fortunatly the stars aligned that day such that i know accelleration and decelleration are not equally improved as motor sized increases. hopefully i remember that. proabbly not

yeah that one on trademe for $7500 cash. Bloody good buying if its a good bike well looked after. Wish i had the skills. That would be in my garage in a split second

ive only been riding not even a year on my zxr (firstbike). Dont think a jump to a 954rr is a great idea for myself

A bike will only go as fast as you twist the throtle.

A mate of mine went from his first bike (VFR400) to a K3 GSX-R thou.
No problems. Enjoy the new bike.

Went from a 400 to a c1 zx 900 had no real issues. A bit of respect of what I had under me and what it could do helped

So tell me, who are buying the 1000cc+ bikes if the sensible chapter tells all that they are not ready for them?

Same here, went straight to a 1200 so have no bench mark comparision, Do I respect it YES does it Frighten me NO.....It an older biker which is more forgiving and also its more a tourer than sports....each to their own.

Really the answer to your questions lies in the answer:

How hard do you want to twist the throttle ???

haha as some people will tell you i beleive that all control devices in cars and bikes come in one of two posititons. mwahhh hahaha.

just down in the garage prepping other bikes and im really amped for the weekend.

picked up my cbr from a really good guy in chch for a 8.5. seems like a steal when a mid 90's zxr750 is 5 or 6. no major wear or tear and runs nice with a few goodies. well no major wear and tear yet.

how hard do i want to twist the throttle?to the stops and leave it there. but im not an idiot. ill take it to a comfy position. then add a little. heheheh.
