    yeah can get crash bungs for faired bikes too, but my little brother didn't when he went for a slide and knocked the corner of the tank in and scuffed up the covers... tank can be bogged but we're leaving it til the L plates go

    besides, chicks dig scars - why fix it

    battle scars (or 'love bites') just give the bike more "street cred"

    he's picking up a new set of diablos tomorrow, front and rear. tis closer to $700 than 600, which is twice what a 250 should cost! at least they last just as long

    The age of the bike is not indicative of condition - the previous owners are what affects the condition. I've seen good bikes that are more than 20 years old, and I've seen absolute dogs of bikes from just this millenium.

    IMO, with your budget, I'd get a mint CBR or ZXR. If you're going to spend that amount of money, you should at least be getting the best performance/handling you deserve to be buying in the 250 market.

    My 2c worth - Buy buying the ninjette, you get:
    A brand new bike (not previously thrashed or badly serviced)
    Easily available parts (although the hornet may have that too)

    But at the end of the day, take a hornet for a ride, then take a ninja for a ride. Then decide which is best for you. They're both well known, reliable bikes.

    Not wishing to piss on anyone's parade, but this if this is your first bike, you're relatively likely to drop it. I'd carefully consider getting something ... ummmm ... a bit more restrained - a scorpio for instance. That way if you do drop it, it's not the end of the world and (more importantly) you get to conserve cash for the "real" bike.

    But that's just me. Not everyone's as boring as I am.

    you are looking to spend 8 grand tho? why not get a respectable bike for 4 or 5 grand which you definitely can do and if anything ever arises you have three grand to spend on it anyway, most people posting here right now would agree that there is no fun in a bike who doesn't need doing anything to it, people around here are always happy to help if you want to do it yourself and kb labor only costs beer. and on reliability a friend once told me bikes are so reliable that the only real thing taking them of the road is the cars that hit them, and the learners that total them, i totally agree with that as it explains all the 20+ year old bikes out there.

    Hornets are an awesome bike.
    Go amazingly, great build quality, fast, reliable, and look fantastic IMHO...

    If you're lucky you can get a brand new VTR250 for $8G too.

    ok here you go:

    Kawaka

    pros:

    New

    shiney plastic

    good colours

    tyres are not so expensive

    Cons:

    pricey

    Shiney Plastic costs money to repair in a drop

    frame sliders are not available as are not crash protectors

    Skinny tyres provide not the best feeling on the road
    as a new bike servicyng will cost more as you need everything done by the shop to keep waranty

    Ph and they are not very fast for a 250 which is taken as a factor when for example you need to overtake a car on the uphill - the parallel twin engine is not made for horsepower performance but rather more of a cruise

    Hornet

    Pros:
    cheaper to buy

    more power than kawaka as an inline four engine that has been taken from the cbr250, the hornets can overtake trafiic no problemo and have no problem keeping up with the big bikes up to 140km/h if you are an experienced rider

    As a naked there is alot less to brake when being dropped

    Frame sliders and crash bars are available for the hornets which makes them very sturdy in a drop - you just pick them up, put a new lever on and you are back on the road

    cheaper to maintain as you are able to do some servicing yourself - at least oil and filter change which saved you at least 100bux per service

    big bike size tyres - the 180 on the front as standard provides an awesome feel on the road and espessially in super tight corners

    Adjustable rear suspension which really works - not like a super sports bike like a CBR1000 but pretty good

    heaps of parts and accessories and bling available for the hornets

    oh and Hornets can go around the clock 100 000+ km without engine rebuilds or any other major servicing

    Cons:

    not as shiney as the kawaka

    you pay a little extra for the tyres due to the sizing which is like big sports bikes


    I had the same choice as you 7 monthas abo and went for the hornet, and havent looked back since. In fact i loved it so much that I bought a big hornet after i got my full and am so happy.

    White - 2001 - just under 49 000km - new chain and sprockets 2000km ago - small ding on tank - small scratch on exhaust pipe cover(fixable to brand new condition for 80 bux - I'll fix for free if you become the buyer) - needs new tires bad as Ive used them up - price 4.5k
