That's a real bummer. You're lucky you didn't domino into the other bikes parked there.

Gutted m8! ive got a Xena alarmd disc lock and thats primarily what it designed to save one from.
regular chunky disc lock but it gets really LOUD with motion, ie someone sits on it!
handy for saving yourself from expensive and embarrising moments as well as th security that it really loud if someone else sits on it!!!

I was about to say what a bad egg you were for laughing, as it's happened to me a couple of times, albeit at slow speeds so I didn't kiss the tarmac.

    That sucks mate.

There's a couple of guys in work with me that use disc locks attached to bungee cords that they tie around their bars. That way they remember to remove the locks when they mount their bikes.

pffffttthahaha........ sorry man thats bloody awful, but i know all to well the perils of these embarrassing situations, by way of the first bike i had with a sidestand cutout switch ......me being a complete noobie (read twat) at the time i couldn' figure out why every time i put the bike in gear it cut out :spudwhat: and i had to put it back into neutral and start it again anyway after about 1/2 an hour lookin at this fiddlin with that with every body i the sevvice station watchin me :spudwave: ,these two guys walk over gigglin their arses off and said they couldnt let me suffer any more and kindly informed me that the side stand had to be up before putting it into gear!!(not the routine i was used to but better!) "ohh yeah" i said tryin to maintain the last shred of whatever cool i thiought i had, thanked them put on my helmet put up the stand and then give my 750 beast a rev just to recover some cool points then eased out on the road wrung its neck out in first (young twat that i was) went to snick it up into 2nd missed a gear and damn near blew the thing up i was too ashamed to look backfor fear i had killed them with the laughter i was givin them! i went home parked up and left it for the day!......somedays your shit just gets all backwards! i understand your pain sedge.

I wonder how many KBers have done the same, but "got away" with it? I usually lock the stearing head whenever i use a disc lock to try and stop doing that .................................................. ............. again.

    disk lock

sympathies mate - had a similar experiance but fortunately at home and no one saw me. I dont hardly ever use the bloody thing now and if I do I tie a bit of yellow string from the disc lock to the handlebars just to remind myself!

    Thats not too bad

I booted it, dropped the clutch, popped a mono breifly, the when the front made contact with ground again (about 2m later), BANG!, bike slid for about 2 meters.
i looked like a mega dumbass, good thing my bike was naked, so no fairing repair bill.
Make up one of those cable things so u know its on the handle bars. about 1.5m nylon and 2 cable crimps do it.

Put the disc lock on your back disc. That way if you forget it, you won't drop the bike when it whacks on the caliper.

Close, but better still, chuck it on the rear sprocket and you'll do no damage to your brakes.

I'm just happy knowing I'm not the only one making a tit of myself in public from time to time.

Hope the bike's ok and your ego recovers...

Oh shit, now THATS funny! Did something similar myself: Used to have a GPX750R that I nearly always put up on the centre stand but on one occasion I used both (?)....started the bike on the centre stand, put my gear on. hopped on, rolled forward off the centre stand, grabbed first and went to roll off. As the clutch was let out it didn't stall- it just bogged down, the more the clutch was let out, the closer it got to stalling, so it sounded just like it was trying to roll off in top gear with the brakes on. WTF? I rolled it back and forward, nothings locked up, what the hells going on. Tried again, same result. Made absolutely sure it was in 1st gear. Tried again with lots more revs. Same result. Two lovely ladies were now laughing at me. I feel so cool. Rolled the bike back and forward again- all OK. WTF is going on???! Tried again- MAX revs. Same result. People all over the car park are now watching. Now I feel REALLY cool . Go to hop off the bike to inspect- 'oh.....the side stands down'...

    Bummer, Sedge.

There are simple things you can do to prevent this happening again - one is to put the lock right behind the caliper, so the front wheel won't turn at all when you go to move forward. A better idea is when you use your disk lock, do something you don't normally do, as a reminder you've got the lock on. I keep my disk lock in a small bag that goes under the seat with the tools. When I lock the bike, the bike keys go in the bag, in my pocket, so when I go to get on the bike, I go "Oh yeah - disk lock is on!"
The 'disk lock leash' is another one, or what I was going to do before the bag thing, is get a fridge magnet or summat similar and stick it over the ignition cap when the bike has the disk lock on, as a visual reminder.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
