    Did I make a differance

Did I make a differance? well I'd like to think so. I live on state h/w1 in a 60k zone and tonite was about the 4th or 5th time in the last couple of weeks that a KLX/KDX (the 2stroke) has gone flying through in excess off 100k along with a XL/SL125.
These are kids having fun but they arnt going to live to be half my age at this rate.
I heard the 2stroker winding up so I jumped up from the puter (how dear they interupt me while on KB) and saw the green flash of the noisie one fly past at least this time he had a helmet on, the old honda was folowing balls out changing lanes something wicked at a very impresive speed for it.
Any how I thought fuk this ran out to the garage slamed the MTB lid on mounted the MTB and took of after them, I knew they wernt far away as I could still hear them. They were having some fun in the meat works railway yard area so I headed over.
I beckened the green thing over (the old Honda had disapared) and he came....... I said bikes are so cool but no good to ya if dead..... told him they were riding well in the stock yards and the bikes looked sweet then proceded to mention the dont be a fukwit speach regarding the speed on the road and singlet that he was wearing reminded him that he was too young to be going to his mates funeral.

So did he just think I was some old grumpy fart that told him off and what I said went in one ear and out the other..... or did he listen to what I said?
well I'd like to think my efforts wernt in vane and that he will be injoying bikes for a very long time......... ohh crap have I become the old man that used to shoot a salt gun at me cos I was digging up his padock on the old TS100 all those years ago.
    cheers DD

    Cool

    I surely do hope so.....
    But time will tell.

All you can do is try to get it into their heads,
and hope like hell they actually listened.

    One can only try.

Better to have given the speech than to wonder if it would've made a difference after seeing him after an accident.

    Keep well.

Good effort Dangerous. Might have had more impact if you'd rocked up on the VTR though, but you did the right thing.

Good on ya. I like to think it's made a difference - even if you've sowed the seed of common sense so that it whispers quiet-like from their subconscious and effects a modicum of restraint.

Saddening to see people doing silly things that could get themselves killed or seriously maimed.

cheers guys, ya could be right about it getting through cos about half an hour later they came past again doing the speed limit, but still wearing SFA on the non reg/wof bikes as I said to him.... you will stand out less to the cops if ya slow down.

At the end of the day mate, im sorry to day it, but they wont learn the lesson here.
Reason being, at that age, if you were in those guys boots, would you listen to someone doing the same to you?
Hopefully they learn on their own accord, or fate deals them a good hand.
I guess we can be thankfull they arent on GSXR's, R1's and Blades like the states.

Or on RGVs, for that matter.

Years back I was visiting a friend in Orcland and some of his flatmates (young Uni students) had clubbed together and bought a defunct RD250 that they were planning to do up and ride. Once I ascertained that they had never ridden a bike in their lives I said "Pray you never get the fucking thing running."

They were rather put out and asked why, so I informed them it was more bike than they could handle at their level of experience (I had owned an RD350 so was quite familiar with the RD's insane power-band and I figured that if the 250 was even half as bad as that, it'd kill them.)

They weren't prepared to have a bar of it, tho' - they knew what they were doing (they were students, after all - knowledgeable on all things).

Fortunately, they mechanical aptitude was even less than their riding ability and all they lost was their money...

i think its very admirable that u did more than most people (myself included) would do. They probably wouldn't have thought too much about your speech immediately...but hopefully when they do screw up (hope it won't be too serious) they'll remember an important chat they once had and it'll become more relevant.

What possibly did help is you saying they'd attract less attention if they went the speed limit. They possibly know what they're doing is wrong & just want to get that part over & done with as quick as poss. As for them wearing sfa on the way home - it'd be interesting to see if next time they're wearing a bit more - that will show if it's sunk in or not.

If it's a 2 smoker, it'd be the kdx as the klx is a 4.

As you were on a bike yourself, they may have taken in what you said.
Sharing the same interest and all.
Unfortunatly maturity and young guys don't go together
    playing in the dirt
