    Rimutaka hill fence perching phenomenon

Can someone explain to me the desire to perch on the fences atop the Rimutaka summit? I am curious and want to understand the motives behind the scrutineering of bikes riding around that bend.

    Because.

    There's.

    Nowhere.

    Else.

    To.

    Sit.

I don't know. I've not figured that one out.

People used to claim it was for the toilets and the cafe, but you could get a permanent marker, draw a cross on a pie in the pie warmer and it would be there all summer.

There was more dung around the back of the loos than ever went into it too.

The main reason I stop up there is to talk shit with other like minded people & to catch up with people you have not seen in a while, like today I bumped into Roadracingoldfart up there, who I have not seen up there for probably twenty years

It does worry me a little when there are some who just park there all day

Time for a rant,I am still pissed off at the deletion of two passing lanes & fucking double yellow lines nearly all the way over the hill!!!!

    Stop there and ask them.

It is part of the right of passage. To be a real biker.

The question should not be why? It should be why not?

You must travel to this special place. Sit on the fence until it comes to you.
Ride it until the wheels fall off...

That's "rite", and it's only a rite of passage for people who think a 60 km round trip is a long way.

Always 4 riders keep lookout while the plants are watered.

There's more composting than watering going on up there lately.
