    Post New Green Party co-leader

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/n...ectid=10558201

"Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons today confirmed she will stand down in June.

She told reporters she looked forward to being an active backbencher, and it was time to pass the leadership on to the younger generation.

Ms Fitzsimons has led the Greens since 1995.

She entered Parliament with former co-leader Rod Donald in 1996, and had expected to retire before last year's election.

She agreed to stay on after Mr Donald, 48, died suddenly in 2005 of viral myocarditis.

Russel Norman has now been her co-leader for nearly three years.

Party rules dictate the co-leaders must be a man and a woman, and MPs Sue Bradford and Meteria Turei today confirmed they would seek the candidacy when it opened next month.

The new co-leader would be appointed at the Green Party annual meeting on May 30-June 1."

One hopes Sue Bradford doesn't get any more power, fucking dyke bitch.

But also if she gets the leadership it'll probably do more harm then good for the knobs.

Yea, but governments change and what not. They've held some small power before.

Even a seat in parliament is too much power for them.

I wonder if the days of the Green party are on the wane?

What with the sobering effects of global recession and all, and they don't seem so fashionable nowadays.

Indeed it could be argued that of recent years the Green party has been less concerned with actual eco-issues than with general loony left social engineering.

But telling parents not to even think about deciplining their child and lowering the voting age to 16 must surely help the environment?

The green party needs a good dose of Roundup.

    Undiluted... of course.

Much as I dislike the Greens, I think this is smart politics. It give the new face time to distance themselves from the "extremist" policies of the past "leadership" before the next election.

In fact, I suggested that Helen needed to step down just as Key came to lead National. Same reason.

How wanky is it that having co-leaders is in their party rules? And that they must be opposite sexes? Talk about Politically Correct to the max.

Of course, if they elect Bradford, that'll probably be the end of them.

Interesting questions, Ixion. I would have thought that with the sobering effects of a global recession, more people might have realised that promoting unbridalled consumption was a mistake (as the former head of the US Federal Reserve has said) and that now might be a good time to adopt a more resilient economy based on long-term thinking.

Many issues that have been seen as radical in the recent past have been adopted as mainstream again (as they were in our grandparents' day). Buying produce at the farm gate or growing our own food, reducing waste and re-using or recycling have all become very fashionable (again) and families are saving money as a result.

As for the eco-issues vs social issues, the Greens (and before them the Values Party) have always been based on the four principles of ecology, social justice, non-violence and democracy. Personally I wouldn't be remotely interested in a single issue party. If they tried to make an artifical division between the natural environment and the social environment I would say they were very naive. I think they are doing the right thing by being just as interested in the welfare of humans as the welfare of trees and dolphins!

I agree. It shows how pathetic and indecisive they are.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

If the Green Party had any credibility left after their pre-election antics, it was torched completely when they voted en masse last week to retain the dreaded Electoral Finance Act -- the only nine people on the planet who still supported it.

The Greens are a political irrelevance. They're little more than a bunch of hysterical spoilers and wowsers who don't know how to have fun and are hell bent on ensuring that nobody else has fun either.
