Sorry to hear about your run-in with a prick. But like the others say, get used to it, a lot of people just want to get past the "L" plated rider cause they think we are slow. When someone tailgates me I often respond by slowing down, especially when I am doing 50 and they are right on my arse I just start slowing down until I decide to give them the bird and then I move on or let them pass.

Cheers, I'm pretty damn glad I made it out ok, considering I've only been riding less than a week!

Yeah be careful mate, there's lots of impatient students late to there lectures that don't care a hoot about anyone else.

Personally I just try and keep at least the speed the traffic is doing or if I want some fun or just feel like faster speeds (Just have to watch the outside massey entrance) zig zag between the traffic.

Nah mate stick with the bolts. If he gets your plate number and sends the cops after you you can tell them your bike was "shedding". May convince the pricks to keep thier distance as the bike they are tailgating might just fall apart in front of them.

Dude I have had a similar experience, I picked up my new bike, it began to rain.
As I left the shop the rain turned to a thunderstorm. I was paranoid, (New bike, new tyres and a very very wet road.) So the ride home was a slow and cautious one. Im going thru the Hunua gorge nice and slow (60-70kmh) One of my loverly neighbours is in a hurry. I can see him in my mirrors, infact I can read the expiry date on his registration. Next minute theirs two of us in my lane. He was doing rude jesters and tooting at me to get out of his way. I ended up pulling into the gravel just to get out his way. The unfortunate thing for him is he did not realise it was me and he lives only two doors down from me. I look foward to when I see him as I will point out what a f#$king c#$k S$%king w@#ker he is. I was quite prepared to pop next door at the time but my wife thought I best not.

What a horrible thing to have happen to you, especially when you have only just gotten your first bike and license...
But welcome to the real world of riding.... it happens so often.....

I thought Palmie drivers were slow drivers... lol.
Well they used to be when I lived down there years ago... and each time I go back there its like fark move over and friggin speed up... they like to travel under the speed limit.... and right on the white line.

Please dont be put off by this ignorant arsehole.....
You just keep on riding.. and stay in your lane....
    Thanks Crashe.

Yes, it's just one of the many out to get us. Thankfully I've been riding a bicycle for many a long year so I have a reasonable sense of self preservation, but with riding the motorcycle, well a lot of it is getting used to riding the motorcycle, if you know what I mean! It's a tad faster than the old treadley......

Still, every day gets better and easier and throws up a new challenge!

I don't mean to be a smart alec, but unless you were turning right out of the right hand lane or overtaking, you should have been travelling in the left hand lane. It does not excuse what the car driver did, which was dangerous, just don't give them the chance to do stuff like that. Ride defensively.

    That's very sad, but true.
A couple of years ago, I drove the car without taking the L-plates off, and I was amazed at the difference it made to other motorists' driving - how rude, impatient, and downright dangerously they drove, in their efforts to get past me (despite the fact I was driving at least 10 km/h over the limit!).
    Unbelievable...
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    exactly how

Does one remove a wing mirror from a moving car without ending up smeared all down the side of said car?

Easy- you raise your steel capped (or similar suitable footwear) boot and extend it towards the mirror. Make sure your knee is bent so as to absorb the impact(dont want to break yourself) , or to add that little extra spiteful kick, and, make like the Doors and "break on through to the other side"
Then proceed to ride away, content in the knowledge that you have maintained the karmic balance- ie wanker has been punished- and continue on your merry path through life

PS Dont do it where the cops can see you, as it is sadly illegal to hand out justice on the spot in such a fashion in this country
