    EXCs 200, 250, 300

I want an exc... i've moaned about my bike for too long. I don't want to take a technology drop so it has to be an 07. There are no 300s for sale and i think they're out of my price range anyway so i'm looking at 07 exc 200s and 250s. There's quite a few 200s on there and the price is usually around 6000 there's only a couple 250s and they're around 7000. I'm erring on the side of the 250 just because i like big whollop. What i'm really asking for here is the advice of anyone who's ridden both or either models. Is the 250 gonna have better low grunt and less snappy annoyingness then the 200? Arguments for both models will be appreciated

    Cheers

I think that Dammad1 might be selling his 300 soon.

oh yeah, i saw him mention that. i think it'll be out of my price range tho as i don't wanna take on any more debt and won't realistically get more than 6000 for my bike in the current "economic climate" if i want to sell it fast.

I just spoke to AFC MC in palmy. they have an 07 250 road registered that they want 7500 for and said they'd probably trade mine in for 5500. I can probably find 2000 but would really rather not have to put cash in. Hence the attraction of the cheaper 200s

Kezz I read a very interesting report on the 08 200 being good for enduro and a bit of a thrash 125 size frame and 250ish horse power and the 250 being quite torquy and more enduro they picked 200exc over the 250. BUT there where big changes for 08 as this was a model revision year which is wht I went for the 08 as they won't make to many changes to it for 3 years or so. I don't know if this applies to the 07 year 200 Vs 250 comparison.
I'll try and find it for you!

That'd be good to read reckless, cheers. There is an 08 200 on trade me for 9500 (buy now) only done 8.5 hours. The guy has an injury. Very tempting but just out of my price range reach.

I bought the sxf cos it was the revision model with the new motor etc and it was cheap but i didn't consider the fact that it was wrong for the type of riding i wanna do lol (kinda important when buying a bike)

Shit that didn't take long lucky I saved them as PDF files.
When I was looking I read every damn review going most of the time they picked the 200exc over the others. I came to the conclusion it was a very under rated bike. People simply wanted bigger numbers on the side.

My only thought here is how big are you and coming of a 450 you might notice the more of a difference going with the 200. When I went and got mine, my mate and I went for a ride in the forest up Parapram way, Tangimoana Forest I think (like a Woodhill GNCC but free). He loved my 200 even though he came of a YZ450 with olins shocks and all the good shit. Didn't say he liked it enough to sell his though!
If I where you Id choose between the 125 size frame and the 250 size frame so 200exc or 300exc and forget the 250. But I've only ridden the 200 so I know shit all about it! LOL!!
    Just my 2c

awesome. Thanks reck. That pretty much quantified what i believed. One of the testers in that 2nd report even said "it's (the 200) not the sort of bike you want if you're nailing it down gravel roads with your mates on 450s" which is exactly what i want to be able to do with it aswell as the tight stuff. I think the 300 is really what i want but i can't afford it so the 250 seems a good compromise. In saying all this i'll be looking at 07s (for price) anyway.

I'm 6 foot 5 and 95 kilos. I think riding the 450 for so long up knarly trails has made me reasonably strong and i think i ride it pretty well but i think i'll be able to ride a smaller (lower cg) bike faster in the single track. I just don't wanna give up the super wheelie stompin grunt that i've come to love so much

Re: Tangimoana, i ride there 4-5 times a year and yes it's like woodhill but free (from what i've heard of woodhill). Free is good, aaaah we have it so good down here... sukkers. Just kidding. It's pretty fast there and being sand it sucks horsepower out of your bike. I think i'll definately miss the 450 tow if i buy a poker when riding Tangi but I ride Karapoti much more often and the poker will be ideal up there. Also with the enduro series in mind i think the poker will give me a greater advantage... the 200 would be ideal but it doesn't have the crossover appeal if ya know what i mean.

    ANYONE ridden the 07 models?

A number of random comments which may, or may not, be usefull...bear in mind I have only got 50 hours on off road bikes, so not much of an expert.

I ride a 200exc (04) with guys on a 300 exc and 450 exc's, as soon as it gets tight (typical Karapoti) everyones saying "I wish I was riding the 200".
I have ridden a 300exc and apart from more torque didn't notice a lot of difference, can't say as I noticed the extra size and weight.
The 200 is designed for a 75kg rider, suits me fine.
The 200 is plenty powerfull enough for most rides, look at the GNCC results and there are 200 exc's up there.

Maybe look at what size / weight the 250 is designed for, that may be the deciding factor...are you a fat bastard?

Have fun choosing tho, wish I had some cash to spend!

cool, thanks. What other offroaders have you owned? any 4strokes? how would you compare your 200 to previous bikes?
Yeah i think the weight issue is gonna be one to note. I'm slim as a bean shoot but lanky and large. 95kg

Do you mean you didn't notice the extra weight of the 300?

As for wishing you had cash to spend... so do I !

I'm 98kg with all my gear, average height and the 200 is ok for me!

Secondly: I've only got a hundred hours under my belt (off road) but the 2hundy goes as fast as I need it to on the gravel link roads. Tapped out 6th gear is bloody fast in anyone's book. Anywhere else its as fast as anything you can ride against. Don't think its a pussy, As fast flat out as my 01 CR250. Faster than any 4 stroke 250 and gives the 450's a fright on anything but a flat out road run. With the right rider of coarse!! Lifts the front in 1st, 2nd and into third under power. I like it because I still do a bit of MX track practice days, Ardmore and sometimes Harrisville and you can still whang it like an MXer if you want to on those tracks!
I've still got the power valve backed off a 1/2 turn and I ride it on the low ignition curve about 50% of the time.

You'll put 1/2 the fuel in a 200 as well, I reckon it'll do a 2 hour GNCC on a tank no stops. I'll find out for sure next series. LOL!

If you want more top end I never use first gear so there's heaps of room for re gearing for more, if you do lots of this riding. There's lots of thumper talk evidence of this I think a 44t rear is a pretty standard option??

In saying the above if you've come off a 450 (especially an SX) you might find a bit of power difference in the fast stuff.

But I am a bit Bias!!!! I love this new bike! I'll shut up Now!!!!!

No other previous off road bikes, just adventure bikes and that isn't a comparison so I really only have experience of the 200, remember I've only got 50 hours on off road bikes.
As far as the 300 goes it didn't feel any heavier than the 200 but you may notice it in really tight stuff...where else is weight an issue?
As far as the rider weight goes, the 200 is sprung for 75 Kg so you may need to respring it for a heavier weight, my comment was really about whether the 250 was a better buy if it's already set up for that weight.
As you probably know the 200 has the 125 running gear and is based on that motor, the 250 and up is larger framed and the motor has differences, primarily in the power valve I think...I'm not sure of that tho!

You probably need to see them side by side to get a handle on the differences.

Random thought 3304.....If you want to race this new bike does the engine capacity affect which class you will be in? I said it was a random thought!
