    Broke down, no-one stopped.

Broke down on the Parapara highway today heading from Raetihi to Wanganui. No cellphone coverage. Waved down a ute heading towards Raetihi, and the nice lady said she would call in at home and tell my husband so he could come and get me.

Sat on the side of the road, walked up and down, lay down, picked up litter, for two hours and no-one stopped. Only three bikes went past in the two hours, two of them gave a very cool looking wave, but didn't slow down. I always slow and make sure I get a thumbs up before I pass a bike on the side of the road. Pretty bummed out about it to be honest.

If it happens to anyone else, please feel free to wave someone down and get them to send a message to the Raetihi International Airport (and backpackers) and I'll come and help out, I'm glad I wasnt too far from home.

yea, I always stop for a biker - even if it involves getting to the other side of the motorway.

Sux that some people dont even bother to think about helping someone in need.

Glad you are back home safe and sound.

should have lifted the bonnet !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

I stopped to help a guy a while back, was a triumph with a custom tank, he'd just been at his brothers palce in Massey fiddling with it, but hadnt put the right fuel cock in, so he couldn't get reserve on one side of the tank - so he was stuck pushing it, or trying to get the fuel from one side of the tank to the other so he could use it.

I told him to jump in and shot down to the petrol station about 1.5km down the road, and the only one within 8km either way up the road. We were the last to be served just as they were shutting up shop, even had to buy a fuel container as some twat had taken off with the loan one.

He had no cellphone on him, and would have have been stuck where he was or atleast faced a 16km walk to get gas.

I try to stop whenever I can if I see a bike stopped on the side of the road, but you can't help everyone all the time.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Would stop and ask myself if I saw a bike, especially on a road like paraparas, not exactly SH1 with traffic.I ran out of fuel (didn't hit reserve quick enough)a couple of years ago on my way home from work on a beaut Saturday arvo, all that happened was I needed to hit reserve, but didn't in time, bike stopped, flicked the tap over waited a moment, primed and went on my way, couple of bikes went passed, waved them on,but a cruiser guy stopped and said if it's gas I'll get it for you,as it was 3-5km to station.

The paraparas ... not exactly a highway .. would have called it almost the backarse of nowhere ..but a most beautiful road .. I am so glad that you got home ok .. but it sucks that no one stopped ... I always try to stop or make sure I get the thumbs up or even turn around if I see a bike pulled over ... but that is one shit of a skinny road to do that .. but it can be done!

Does your bike have hazard lights Lucy? If they do you should use them when in trouble. When I slowed down for bikers on the side of the road I thought might be in trouble, it always turned out to be just re-adjusting gear, putting in ear plugs etc...
