yeh was god ride and yes if your wondering was one of the guys we where riding with that did the major t bone 08 450exc vs drz400 drz won bent rear sub frame, ktm cleaned out the front forks bent and steering head and frork ripped of the bike bike in two bits both walked away which was o good thing.

the KTM rider, and there is photo's some got taken as it got loaded onto the Teryx, the KTM snapped the steering stem,

was a lot of accidents today, not to sure why more, track was basically the same as years gone past, but had more injuries than any ride we have ever run,

after the lunch stop? there was nothing particularly challenging after the stop, nothing that made you stop and think OMG how am i gonna get up this.
was it before or after the beach?

It wasn't on the main trail, can't really remember where it was. But stopped to watch a few have a go and didn't see anyone do it from the bottom to the top. Trust me it was gnarly, looked nearly vert near the top.

Kawasaki Teryx, mate that thing is friggin awesome I'm most impressed with the way it handles pretty much go any where. Thanks again.
I did get to ride a few different bikes today, all be it, through the misfortune's of there riders
First was a Honda CRF450X, guy had a broken Collar bone I think, got to love the electric start next was a KX85 small wheel think the young fella broke his wrist, so rode that around the bottom of the Sand dunes back to the lunch area, didn't want to wring the shit out off trying to carry my fat ass. after the lunch break off again, coming down the sand hill heading towards the beach come across another young guy with a I think another broken wist, rode his KTM85 out to the road, the last one was a YZ250 that bike was awesome, the guy that came off that bike sound like his off was serious.
Hope these guy are all home and feeling a little better.

it was the hill bout 5 min after the lunch break where you climb up the steep little clay road then follow the fence back before you drop down to the beach. That valley at the bottom straight up.

That was a silly accident that was down to the rider so no one could have predicted or prevented that one.

was a lot of accidents today, not to sure why more, track was basically the same as years gone past, but had more injuries than any ride we have ever run,

I had a really good tumble on a fast section along a long straight fence line, Was totally tapped out on what looked like a flat paddock and hit like a wallow area that an animal might lie in. But it was right on the line of the bikes and unmarked. Pulled like hell to get the front to clear but it caught the far edge and the bike went arse over kite and me over the bars. Crushed my thumb and bent all the bars and risers I rolled with it and managed to come out OK, got up, and went back to get the bike. Another occasion I went round a dead tree but a big branch was lying buried in the grass, hit it hard but stayed on okay but a other riders may have been on there arse if they followed my track through the grass to that gate.
I saw a rider went though a wooden fence (bad direction choice) and one lying prone on the ground who looked like he missed a gate and hit the post ( couldn't turn in time), my buddies saw a Husaburg drowned when he missed a culvert crossing and I went through a section where two concrete pipes where buried quite a narrowish pass but there was a culvert either side and the grass was same height all the way so easy to miss. Trouble is when the rides aren't very technical like this one the speeds get up very high.
Just a few ideas scott!!
I presented the above because think a few of the above incidents could have been helped by a little more hazard Identification and track direction marking. Some of them appeared to happen because at speed, people where getting a bit lost and therefore making bad decisions. I don't want to make your job of setting out these rides more arduous but when the ride isn't technical to keep the speeds down maybe you could look at the direction making and the hazard identification a little harder (the surprises that might catch you out in other words). Not anything major just a bit more of the plastic ribbon etc steering you in the right direction and maybe around dugout pits and hazards

Now let me make it very clear the above are not criticisms at all, it was a damn good ride!!!!

The ride overall was a bloody good one scott (except for riding the last 40k with a throbbing thumb) I would go on the next one in a heartbeat. Lovely country we have here!! Nothing to difficult although I did miss going the A loop with the first forty riders. I actually liked the last ride better with the descents and climbs was a bit more challenging but this was a great ride to the beach covering a lot of lovely country!
We meet at the Arched bridge and rode all day with Barty, Rupe, my son and my two normal riding buddies and Bartys mates. Couldn't think of a better way to spend a sunny Sunday!!

yea that's my dads mate, did you see him? someone said the bone was out but i don't think it was that bad, apparently he hit some slippery stuff right before a gate and lost the front and hit the fence, but he was talking to my dad after it happened
what reckless is saying is completely true, if the people weren't going so fast they probably wouldn't have crashed, i think it hit the same tree in the grass

520 riders signed in, a record for this event.

i take on board some of the comments, when they are put constructivly they are always welcome, we have evolved the series since we took over it and i think it has got better, our numbers are still growing so we must be doing something right, Waikertu is run different from all the rest of the rides we do so we can go though the sand dunes and down the beach etc, we always look to improve the rides.

The sand dunes and beach scare me as people seem to go nuts and lose comman sense, air strips are not much better.

we took an extra person out to mark this time, and used more dazzle and markers than last year, (approx 30% more), we do not mark the track to race spec, as it is ment to be a trail ride, And even with 3 or 4 people you can miss holes in paddocks and stumps etc, as you tend to follow the lines that suit the quads you are on at the time. but then the guy leading on a bike can me 10 metres either side pretty easily and that is where you rode the 4 wheeler when marking, When you are leading the first lap you have normally only done one lap a couple of days before.
