The rest of my trip will be back to Christchurch on Sunday night. I'm parking the bike in a storage facility while I'm over in Wellington.

the rest of my gear will be a bit of food, a change of clothes, a sleeping bag and some tools(Just incase the unthinkable happens) Hoping a backpack and a tank bag will hold all of that. The bike itself has a nice place to keep the tools.

I started this thread a while ago, in the aim of helping these requests.

You'll find a spreadsheet with hopefully all 24 hour stations in NZ listed. If you see anything you can update, or add, let me know, and I will do so.

Apparently someone reported something in Kaikoura, by the wharf, but haven't been able to confirm any specifics?

It's barking mad and if it doesn't turn you into a complete loon within half an hour of cocking a leg over the lofty 875mm seat height, I'll eat my Arai.

What time are you leaving? Im down for a trip to Picton in the wee small hours if you want some company?

Neither of the 2 stores in Kaikora are 24 hour. The BP opens at 6am. There is a truck stop (need a fuel card I think), and a credit card pump around somewhere in Kaikora (the south end I think).

Speaking from experience, my rain suit when all tucked into its pouch makes an ok pillow if your sleeping on a deck outside a pub in Kaikora.

Also take earplugs if you havnt got any already.

I was gonna ask you if I could borrow your rain suit. Just in case I needed a pillow It better not bloody rain, my gear keeps water out worse than a sieve keeps water in!

You can come along if you want. Not sure what time I'm leaving, not sure how long it will take to get to Picton on my bike. Want to be there by 5 though. Probably about 11 or 12 I would think.

I've got a credit card so using a credit card pump would be fine. Didn't the banks put a stop to using credit cards at pumps though? You can't seem to be able to do it anywhere in Christchurch now.

Mention this to Amy and I'll Take a sledgehammer to the Raptor. She does NOT like me riding a bike, let alone riding it in the dark to Picton!

Thanks for the info. Will be sure to look into every single gas station I see that's got lights on and may just be open. All in the name of my fellow bikers who are as crazy and stupid as I am and like to ride their bike a quarter of the length of the country in the middle of the bloody night.

Na the service stations stopped doing it because your not very likely to buy a chocolate bar if you dont have to walk inside past the rows and rows of lollies.

They dont make much money on fuel, most of their profit comes from the drinks and lollies that people buy.

Yes at south bay where the touristy whalewatch boats are, are 2 pumps (1 on the wharf, one before the launching ramp) with fuelpumps operating on creditcards.....
have used it just before x mas to take 500 liters of petrol in little launch......
Only one of the 2 worked.. but both are easy accessible by bike or car....
(only the wrong one was accessible from the water to...)
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....
