No, where she comes from they have a lever beside the steering wheel that magically clears all traffic out of the neighbouring lane the instant you flick it...

I take it that "International" is the licence she was driving on?

How do they work those licences anyway? Do you have to pass a test that indicates you know enough about the road rules of other countries (at the very least, the rules of the country you're visiting) to be allowed to drive there? Do you have to pass some kind of practical test (where you get to drive on the opposite side of the road with a few stunt drivers around to mimic the traffic of "forn parts")? Or do you just pay a fee and get a bit of paper that says you're allowed to drive anywhere on the planet despite the fact you haven't yet fully mastered your own country's road rules?
    Motorbike Camping for the win!

I saw the bike on the way to uni around 9:30 this morning, it looked like the forks were pretty bent.

It doesn't really matter if the lady knew the 3 second indicate rule or not, I'm pretty sure most people (including me) don't bother indicating for 3 seconds. What it comes down to is she didn't look before changing lanes (or she just didn't see the bike).

No not me. I don't wear jeans anymore. Doesn't sound good, be careful out there

Well...in the cage, I'm getting quite conservative and give lots of indicative warning, Fat lot of good it does most times, as well.
On the bike....the manouvres been and gone in 3 secs!

When I was going to the States a couple of years ago, I went to the AA, took in a photo & handed over $12-$18. Voila, an international car & bike licence after about 5 minutes. No wucken furries about even what country I was going to. Valid for 1 year so they advise that you get it just before you leave NZ.

As for indicating 3 seconds before manoeuvring, why bother - you can do it as you're making the move or even as you're about to finish it, that's if you're even going to pretend. What gets me is the indicator goes on & without even looking the move gets made - it's a licence to do the manoeuvre whether it's safe or not (mirrors - that's for putting on make-up & doing the hair, isn't it? Or checking out the guy behind )
