Only downside I see is that it's weather resistant rather than waterproof.

The GoPro is a 5mp still camera as well and has a setting that takes a 5mp shot every 5s.

You'd almost want 2. One for video and another on the other side of the helmet doing stills

second ones better, the first one has 320x240 res video recording which is very poor and nowhere near dvd quality like they advertise

i bought it two years ago and it cost 650. i usually get about 100 minutes of footage on a 2 gig card. the only thing letting it down is its not wide angle

On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

    Helmet Cams

    my two cents worth.

I recently destroyed my helmet cam and spent a bit of time researching what to buy next. I found this article quite useful

If you want to buy a reasonably priced helmet cam that gives you a 640X480 resolution then the best of this group is the tachyon. I wouldn't have any concerns about ordering something like this direct over the interweb

Not a bad looking unit and reasonably priced. The picture quality looks ok. The drawback to this style of camera is that you have a big lump on your head that can easily get knocked. And it is hard to tell until you finish filming and download the video whether you had the angle of the dangle right. It can be a real pissoff to find that after a great day out riding all you filmed was your front wheel or the sky.

I thought one of these things would be ok especially for the bucks but then I decided that there were better options for me-it is really a matter of how much you are prepared to pay.

The integrated options look good-especially the purpose built cameras. These units are powered by the recorder-much simpler than some of the helmet cam systems that you hook into a camcorder and have to have a separate power supply. Unless you already have a compliant camcorder I would steer away from these systems.

I ended up spending a chunk of cash on the vio pov 1.5 because I decided that
spending the extra money and getting a superior image was important to me-the other cameras like the tachyon are ok-and a cost effective option. The POV gives a much better quality image, wide angle view, which means you can get some good video even if the angle isn;t quite right

It is very robust, waterproof, runs on 4 AA batteries, and records to big SD cards. Did about 3 hours filming the other day on a high quality setting and there was still plenty of juice in the camera-this is the result.

The mic is very sensitive and I had a lot of wind noise. I will have to play with the settings and the placement to get more of the bike noise. The unit records using the divix codec for compression which is a pain to edit so I am not all that pleased with my editing effort here....I also realized when I started editing that I hadn't been using the highest quality setting.

One of the things in life I have discovered to my cost is that if you go for the cheaper option when you buy a toy you're normally disappointed and end up spending even more money later to get what you really want.

That footage is the best yet.Great. I found myself riding the track whilst sitting here having a beer, no sweating...LOL and I think that's why you guys are striving to perfect the video work, to capture the moment.

I now know who digs holes in the red tracks...the bill is in the mail.

In all honesty that is very good footage Keith. The wide angle is great.

Once the great unwashed masses see this vid, you'll have to extend the car park...

Great vid, best helmet cam footage (I guess that terms a bit out of date, not much celluloid used now) I've seen.

    The Sandpit's cool eh?....
