Buell push rod twin something. Comes complete with a fan. A "Blast" may be more suitable for your humble commute though.

Walking, running, public transport or a scooter are not options.
Fair enough, Id say go for a motard considering the distance and amount of red lights to wheelie from.

Some options (In order of price):

Riding a treadly doesn't necessarily mean you're a struggling stoopid student. You can spend a small fortune on a new fandangled push bike.
If the environment is of no concern, you can laugh at all the cars, trucks and buses making the air you breath all the more toxic.
Getting fit is just a by-product of commuting by treadly and your missus might be well impressed if you have more stamina in the sack.
Besides...those lycra/spandex outfits are so sexy!

Motorcycling seems so reasonable in comparison. Decent groupset, $5,000. Decent wheelset, $4000. Disc wheel, $3000. Frames start at about $5,000 for anything worth having...
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

You should have a ride on it. Not heavy to throw around at all. Just like a big Motard.

SV650 naked with a big rear sprocket makes a good commuter. They're a bit gutless stock, but if you go up a few teeth on the rear they can really launch from the lights like there's no tomorrow. Put a big noisy exhaust on it so everyone knows there's a twin coming...

Hilarious in traffic, and just about anywhere else.
Having ridden one of these, it would get my vote. Plenty of power for some 2 up riding, very light and flickable, and they have their own 'cool' factor.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
