Odd how there haven't really been any really useful suggestions yet. Apart from maybe the KTM 690.

But I wouldn't buy a motard for the job. Still rather uncomfortable, high seat, no luggage carrying ability, etc.

I vote for my personal favourite, the Multistrada 1100S. With the factory hard luggage option. Carrying a backpack to work and/or jamming all one's stuff into a tankbag sucks arse.

And it's the most perfectly neutrally comfortable bike that I've ever ridden. I think it'd fit Finn well too.

I suspect Finn wants something that's going to actually start every morning.

The KTM has a decent seat, and a ventura pack rack and my one comes with the KTM tank bag :P I've even taken a tent on the thing!

Saw 185km/h on it too at the Taupo track with a little more to come.

But considering all Finn has to do is ride himself to the office where he has the suit and tie etc waiting (assume he doesnt need to take any other gear with such as laptops etc either) something like a multistrada is a bit of an overkill for a commute of 2.whatever kms. If it was a 100km daily commute, multistrada might be a good option, or if he was say a roving IT guy...

Without upsetting Finn, I thought he suffered from ducks disease, so a motard or bike with a high seat height would be a shit of a thing for him with traffic lights.
What you need is a helicopter to whisk you the 3km to work.

I think motards are the perfect commuting bike. The offer a great view of the road and you can see over most vehicles, they are very maneuverable, you can jump curbs with ease and best of all they are alot of FUN!
Despite what some might say there are plenty of luggage options and can be quite capable tourers.

Multistrada with bags for commuting? Too wide. Top box maybe.

I did wonder about that when I suggested a motard. What about - http://motoprofi.com/bikephoto/4393/...600_2001_2.jpg
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
