    Insurance queries for motorcyclists

    INSURANCE QUERY SERVICE FOR MOTORCYCLISTS.

Hi, I'm Sue and I work for Whitelock Suzuki in Wanganui. I have a 15 year background in insurance (the most boring 15 years of my life but hey, it paid well) and a life long background in bikes.

I see a few questions on the Kiwi Biker website and a bit of misinformation out there so I'm offering myself up to anyone that has an insurance question or query about the cover on their bikes. It might be about the cover you have, a claim settlement that you are unhappy with, unsure where you stand legally, what you can do to sort things out etc etc.

We have a subagency here for Classic Cover for Road Bikes and also use Star Insurance for younger riders, for theft only covers and MotoXers but I promise the information I give you will be neutral - I wont use it as an opportunity to sell you the insurance I do here.

If you want to contact me just email sue@whitelocksuzuki.co.nz

Looking forward to being inundated with queries from confused motocyclists,

    Sue

Swann Insurance and NZI ... shock / horror!

Who'd have thunk it? Mrs Oakie had her stolen Eliminator insured with Swann Insurance thus avoiding the big nasties like NZI etc. "Go with the bike specialists like Swann, they're much better than the big companies" I read time and time again here. So we did, even foregoing our usual (and most excellent AMI). Imagine my surprise then when we received her insurance cheque and found that while the address showed it coming from Swann Insurance, the letterhead and the cheque itself were NZI ! So Swann is a subsidiary (or at most an associate) of NZI. Da de dum dum daaa!

No real complaints with the service we got from them. Bike stolen 28 September ... cheque received 19 November. Took a bit of time but I guess stolen bikes need a bit more investigating than write offs. They were delayed a bit while their local private investigator down here did his thing.

Yep, in most cases your dollar ends up in the same place.

IAG (Insurance Australia Group) operates mainly NZI and State in NZ, and in turn they market via other brands through brokers and banking organisations.

Swann Insurance is part of the Australian part of IAG, although many claims processes are done via the same claim staff, making it unusual when you hear the NZI vs State vs Swann claim threads ....

Ultimately all our premiums head to Aussie though.

Likewise Vero Insurance - who operate as Vero, SIS, AA, AMP, Axiom, Autosure and Mariner.

Just make sure you don't piss off your Loss Adjuster at claims time Thank god I don't do things with wheels!

I think Swann have their own dept as opposed to using the same staff as IAG.

Swann is an insurance broker. There are heaps around just like them. Even NZ's largest insurance companies use offshore insurance companies when the risk is high or difficult to quantify. The term is "underwriting".

Swann provide a very good service and are very competitive.
