“- He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.”
I have known Roger for near twenty years. He is a dedicated motorcyclist and has some great machines. My son sold him a 1939 vellocette about five years ago.
I can recommend Roger as a person who would use any monetry help we can give, honestly, wisely and to good effect.
Rogers talents also include steam engines, he can drive a steam train and traction engines with the skill of experience.
He also helped set up a coal miners museum in Kawakawa that is well worth a visit. His main skill is in restoring old books. He did several for me, which I treasure, beautiful work in the style of hundreds of years ago, using methods of a bygone age.. He uses possom leather. Another of his skills is making apple cider. I was at his place once and he had a small truck full of apples for that purpose.
I wonder how his printing presses fared. I seem to remember that they were in his house on higher ground. They would be much harder to restore than bikes.
I will contact my son who goes past his place daily and ask him for a report. He realy loved the Vello which he sold to Rogers wife who gave it to Roger as a surprise birthday present. My son now only collects Italian bikes of which he has about eight.
A story - I was down at the Opua shops and Roger rode away up the hill on his Panther sloper with side car attached. I listend as the bike went up the steep hill thinking he will have to change down soon. To my amazement he changed to a higher gear and the Panther just cruised away.
I have posted some pic's Roger sent me. Up there ^^^ a few post's ago. I am sure it was a land slide.........we call them slips here in the Hawkes Bay.
Because I love old bikes but don't have the time or money to collect them I wanted to help someone who can. Also I cleaned up our farm after such a storm. It is heart breaking, every single day. But you gota get outa bed and do it again. Day after day after day. And if people support and help you it makes the big job a lot better.
It is not for me to ask anyone to hand over any coin but if nothing else please send them an Email of support. It will make a difference. And some coin will help.
Yeah, just to receive any degree of support helps provide the resolve to keep going. I trust he has received more support from you guys than this thread indicates. He comes across as a 'biker' and he if he was stranded on the side of the road we would stop to se if we could help. Same thing, eh.
Ok here is a story for you. If you want to know how a little money can help in a situation like this, this is our story.
When Cyclone Bola hit the Hawkes Bay it made a massive mess of a lot of every thing. We spent 2 years getting back on our feet. But the people of New Zealand put their coin in to a collection that was used to help people. We received $250.00 of this money. We were going to put it towards grass seed at first but then had a rethink. We had saved $500.00 for a dish washer but needed $750.00 or so to get one. We spent the money we saved and the $250.00 and got one. Then we declared we would spend the 20 minutes a day that it took to do the dishes, sitting around the fire as a family doing family stuff. Remember, like so many people up North are doing now, you do not get a break from the clean up for months, 7 days a week from daylight to dark. So the most valuable thing we had was the 20 minutes a day as a family. The cost of the grass seed was well beyond the $250.00 but the 20 minutes a day bonded the family for ever.
So that's how New Zealand helped us. A lot of people will think we waisted the money but when you are at rock bottom and under stress it is the time out that will make it better for tomorrow. That's why the donation should never have strings attached. Thank you New Zealand. And I bet there are people on here who gave money to that collection. Thank you all for what you did for us.
Looks like the Bureaucrats are alive and well in Northland...nothing like a good kicking when your down to put things right eh.....Cmon KBers..lets send a little to help this guy....after all, thats the Kiwi way ....isnt it.....sounds like he's gonna need coin....how about $10 from everyone... would be a great help I would think.....Thanks for the ups big guy .....cheers W

Do you seriously expect me to believe that these politicians would implement policy based on nothing more than bullshit......
Sorry peeps - probably been asked a million times before - but it's that time of year and the insurance need renewing.
Shopping around some more favourable quotes from Ebikeinsurance - anyone had any dealings with them, good or bad?
Also Protecta - anyone?
Looking at maybe putting the wifes (bonneville) and mine on a multi policy to save a few bucks - any companies specialise in this ?
Ta in advance
Be Good - or if you can't be good, be careful!
Sigh. As you correctly note, the topic of insurance has been done to death many times before. This site has a search engine. Searching for something like, say, "insurance" should give you some leads.
Should that be too much like hard work, give Dave the motorcycle insurance specialist broker at Kiwibike insurance a ring or an email. Details are on his web site www.kiwibike.co.nz
