What the SR had similar hp to the KTM? Mate they hven't gone far really have they?

The SR to me is one the dumbest ugliest bikes I have ever seen - next to the FT500 that is... However they have an absolutely huge following overseas. As Woodman said before 'one mans mona lisa is another mans fat smiling tart' or somting like dat.....

I had an SR185 and the 250 was the same. Just like the GN's. The SR500 however was a lot more dirttracker style.

Er - the KTM was being compared to a CBX.

As far as the SR500 is concerned, you have to put it in context.
Pommy singles had long gone. and Yamaha were the first Jap maker to resurrect (copy, actually), the concept.

    Ft500

Sorry Padmei but I'm going to have to stick up for the Honda FT500 & FT400 Ascot series.
Heaps were sold in NZ in the early 1980's so they were quite popular for a while. I admit though you don't see many still on the road & their styling is an '"aquired taste". One reason for their demise is that (because of their electric start) their engines were popular for off road karts.
Basically it's an XR500 motor with chassis & trim styled to look something like the flat track bikes of that era. But they weren't a success, even though in the States there is heaps of aftermarket stuff to wake them up & they even raced them.
Yes, I'v owned both models, they were fun to ride & surprisingly good gravel bikes.
Pic is my 500, nice & clean before selling it in 2003.

    I kinda liked 'em...
They were styled and named after Honda's Grand National Racer in the States, and I never understood why they didn't make a proper one - a fire breathing XLV motor version...

Why the hell are we talking about VT's and FT's in a thread about cool adv bikes. I'm not sure they even make cool road bikes!!!

This should be on the sub zero wall - prototype 950 Adventure

    And the one I really want - 05 950 Adv S

    Cheers R
