And remember kids: Always wear protection

Learnt first hand on thursday why I'm an idiot.

Was doing some tshirt printing at home, ran out of ink, and promptly jumped on the bike to pootle down the road to get some more.

Chucked on the jacket, then thought... can I be bothered putting the rest on? Answer was no, so I chucked the helmet on, wheeled out the bike, and set off.

Long story short, car stops abruptly at a zebra crossing, I also attempt to stop abruptly. Slightly wet, greasy road + Knobly tires = No Grip. Bike goes over, and we both slide under the car.

Get up, dust myself off, politely ask the driver to move her car forwards so I can extract my bike. Dent on the car, couple of scrapes on the fairings. My sholder twinged a bit, but I thought 'ah well, I'm walking, I'm good'.

Exchanged numbers, went home, got off the bike, and felt something drip onto my shin.

Upon examining my leg, found a bit of my knee cap exposed, and a great deal of skin missing from the side of my leg. Then, and only then, did it dawn on me that I had made quite a bad mistake.

So now I sit here typing this (finally got internet at the new flat) with my leg strapped up, coffee in hand, passing the day watching Band of Brothers and musing over how I can become less of an idiot in future. Or maybe I'm just doomed to be a victim of Darwinism. On the bright side, my bike pants are still in one piece, and my jacket now has battle scars.

    Meh. Nude ride anyone?

    Exactly, two things to learn:

    1. Gear can help when you cock up.

    2. Don't cock up.

I'll leave it to you to figure out which is more important.

Hope your leg doesn't hurt too much.

A very large proportion of (motorcycle)accidents happen within 5 km's of home. Either... returning from, or starting, a ride (brain on wind down/up phase). But some ... just tootling to the corner dairy for milk/bread etc.Not far to go, or not going far... means brain not thinking too far ahead, not concentrating on the job at hand. Low speed, low risk... right ??? We have all done it. Few... if any exceptions, in the whole motorcycle community.
The tar seal doesn't get any softer in the summer, cage pilots are just as stupid (its always their fault eh ..!!) and if all else fails (run out of people to blame)... blame the weather...

Not making an allowance for ...wet roads, knobbly tyres, lack of full safety, not watching for a reason for the car in front to stop. All potential for pain. In the body, or in the pocket.

Enjoy your recovery, and contemplation period. Do it right and the time wont be... wasted ??? ... right ???

Ha, doc?! I need no doc. Don't you know? I'm rambo when it comes to wounds. Bit of gunpowder, lighter, and BANG! its quarterized.

Seriously though, went for a bit of a blat up SH 16 to Woodhill yesterday. Pity the guys I was going to go dirtbiking with had departed by the time I got there just after lunch (had an epic hangover to nurse in the morning)

Drove the car to work this morning thinking it would be less painful than biking. Turns out that particular seated position sends waves of pain through my leg... Hmmm. Might take the bike tommorow...

Ah crap, yes. Completely what I meant. Was thinking that was looking strange... I mean, I don't usually cut my wounds into 1/4 pieces...
