Updated hypersports tyre replaces Pilot Sport for 2004

Michelin has just revealed details of its latest sports tyre, the Pilot Power. You’ll probably see it first as standard fitment to the new Yamaha YZF-R1, but it will gradually replace the old Pilot Sport in 2004. Details are sketchy as yet, but the French firm is making the usual claims about MotoGP-derived synthetic rubber compounds, allowing exceptional grip and power transmission.

The old Pilot Sport was a decent tyre, if a bit elderly, and the new Pilot Power should help old Bibendum get back onto par with the likes of Pirelli’s Diablo, Metzeler’s Roadtec and Bridgestone’s BT-012.

Michelin also announced a new range of sporting rubber for big scooters, the Pilot Sport Radial SC. If you need even better performance for your Suzuki Burgman 650 and the like, this looks like a decent bet.

Finally, there’s a host of new off-road rubber, with the new Starcross motocross tyre and Endurostar enduro fitment offering better performance on all types of terrain.
More details when we get them.

diablo is supposedly about as good a wet weather sport tyre as you'll find right now (specially if you go front and rear... the diablo rear ain't much good at getting rid of water on its own)

They look like a half way tyre between the Diablo and Diablo SuperCorsa..

The grooves look awfully familar to the tyres Xaus and Hodgson were running on Race 2.....grooved and all
