Summer 2009 ~ 2010 Motorcycle safety campaign?

Wouldn't it be great if there was something in the pipe line?
How does one go about getting this idea to those who make the decisions?

Not sure if this is a re-post but a recent example this year in the UK.

Something like that wouldn't be shown here. BRONZ would make sure only the bits about car drivers causing motorcycle accidents would be shown... and the other major factors of rider errors wouldn't get talked about. So effectively turning it into another "can you spot the motorcyclist?" campaign of the 80's.

I loved the way they talked about filtering as if it is the most natural thing in the world for a motorbike to do in traffic.....because it IS the most natural thing for a motorcycle to do in heavy traffic - it's what they are for!

This stuff needs waved under the noses of the beaureaucrats here....

Everyone knows we need to do something right?
The way I see it, if we do nothing then status quo remains.

I thought this would be a great starting point, not re-invent the wheel but look at what other countries have done / are doing and more importantly get ideas such as this in the face of those who need to know.

Lets face it, how much has been spent on motorcycle awareness recently?
Judging by the latest ACC stats there is a huge percentage (39%) of accidents that are not caused by the rider, i.e. U-turning vehicles, tin tops not seeing bikes and the like.

The challenge is how to we get ideas (plant seeds) like this in the face of those who make the decisions and those who matter re road safety spending?

Is BRONZ the answer? Are they even interested or active in stuff like this anymore?

It would be re-freshing to see a new level of interest and a national level of expenditure on motorcycle safety rather than the tin top only style over the last few years.

That leaves an even huger 60% segment that is the motorcyclist's fault.

Targeting that will pay more dividends than blaming car drivers.

BRONZ playing the blame game with its head in the sand is probably doing more harm than good.

Absolutely! BRONZ would be very interested in any ideas you have got.

BRONZ does not exclude the fact that Motorcyclists cause accedents, that is why the other half of BRONZ is Ride Right Ride Safe, training and safety course for Bikers.

My local Road Safety Rep last week at a SADD conference I attended.
In regards to the ACC Motorcycling campaign...if they were in contact with Bronz...
I believe she said they were going to work with Ulysess?

Thats all I know...I have put forwards some suggestions that I'd like to follow through with but we'll see what happens...

I think the greatest need lies in educating motorcyclists that riding motorcycles is not a game.

The great thing about this is it covers all causes of accidents...
signs / boards at intersections.. for the tin tops
signs / boards near bends / twisties.... for the wanna bee / head strong idiot rider.

The more that's out there, the more ppl realise, the more ppl think.

39% of bins are non rider fault, a major are and this covers some of that! we are our own worst enemy at times, I agree, but it's the same old a few wreck it for the many.

Regarding the campaign.
Me thinks anything, even if it's something as silly as a few signs (cheap but effective) it might just make a difference, maybe small but hell it's got to be better than the summer just gone campaign.
If nothing is done then little will change.
