    Crazy or cool rider?

    Hi All,

This is probably a repost, but in researching bike stuff recently came across this video from youtube.

    Clicky

How does he do it firstly? Is he crazy or just way too laid back?

    Kind regards

    Joe

The first one is caution. they actively anticipate other drivers moving into their path...watch them slow down.

The second one is courtesy. When someone is in their path they slow down to let them complete thier maneuovre and therefore EVERYONE gets to go the way they want in relative safety.

Put one New Zealand driver in the mix with the mindeset of "I have right of way so I will not show any courtesy and I will attempt to kill ANYONE who pulls in front of me or tries to overtake me" and you would have bedlam.

    Smile wicked

I drove in a couple of countries like that - Cairo has to be the worst, but for some strange reason it works
Mind you I read somewhere that India has nearly 42,000 killed per year on their roads? (thats just the ones reported)
Mind you a friend of mine was in an accident in a mini bus over there - 12 peopled killed ad about 100 cars pilled up?
Considering how many people are in all of India - I guess per capita it's low??
Lifes Just one big ride - buckle up or hang on

It's just like people walking on the street, but using cars and motorbikes instead. You don't see people constantly crashing into each other on a foot path.

I have been to India twice and yes they are really crazy drivers BUT they do not lose their cool, do not get angry, and are not upset when an accident is avoided by only a centimeter or so (which happens all the time!). They also HONK horns every few seconds - unlike in western countries where a horn blat means "Get the out of my way you fuckwit!", in India it means "Please sir, madam, I just want you to know that I am near your vehicle and I don't want to cause a problem so lets both be careful, thank you."

Yep, been to China twice also. Not as crazy as in India but crossing the road in both countries is exactly like you describe it - the first time you hope like hell no one hits you then after that you slowly walk at a constant crossing speed knowing that everyone will go around you no problem.

Back to India - We have had drivers (chauffeured car) who went the WRONG WAY on a divided highway or one way street and no one gets upset - you just hear more horns honking. Also have had our driver miss - by a few centimeters - an old farmer carrying a huge load of firewood on his head, while we were doing 130 kph. Farmer smiled. CRAZY! Also experienced several times passing cars on a double lane highway, with oncoming traffic so that at the time of passing there were three vehicles with little separating them, at 120 kph... still all cool, no worries. After the initial shock thinking that we were going to die, we relaxed and had fun like on an amusement park ride.

True - when accidents do happen in India, they are horrific.

The first clip was just crazy ;-)
The second one (intersection) was really interesting, as one comment on youtube said:
"it is very efficient really...following nature

I love my country and the way in which we naturally obtain optimum."
