Man arrested after high speed pursuit
New 8:38AM Sunday Mar 15, 2009
A 34-year-old man has been arrested following a high-speed chase in Hamilton.
Police were attempting to stop the man on a motorcycle about midnight on Friday when he sped off, Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno said.
The man reached speeds of more than 150km/h in the industrial area of Pukete but police abandoned the pursuit when it entered a residential area, he said.
A member of the public later saw the man on foot and alerted police.
Mr Penno said a police dog handler found the man in a gully less than 100m from his abandoned motorcycle.
A man will appear in Hamilton District Court next week charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and failing to stop.
