Funny how nowhere in any of your posts did you mention you were riding alongside patched gang members at all, all the while complaining about the excessive show of Police attention until someone else pointed it out.
You really think the gangs are there because they have such community spirirt and want to give something back?they do it because it gives them a degree of legitimacy in a show of power, they might even suck in few gullible fools and future prospects on the way as well. And you just aided them in that.
If you want to donate to St Johns theres actually an easier way than making friends with gangs, it can even be done online.

Not all poker runs are organised by M/C's (some of which are gangs). I've been on poker runs hosted by hot rod clubs and S/C's, or Social Clubs. The Jokers in Ashburton are a prime example; great bunch of folk, love their motorcycles, they put on a great show once every two years and in the alternate years host a great POKER RUN! There's no ulterior motive there.
C'mon, you live in the 'Naki, you must be aware of the Axe Throwers M/C. They're not a gang are they? They also host a bi-annual, alternating show/poker run scenario. Are they a problem? Really?
In the case of Nelson Bays Motorcycle Events Ltd, who hosted last w/e's poker run, they got nothing but BAD publicity so I don't know where you get off on that.
If an organisation (say, Patrick's Motorcycle Events Ltd) hosted a poker run (or a needlework afternoon for that matter) and several Hells Angels fronted up, who would be the one to send them on their way? Conversely, if they weren't sent on their way and they forked out their registration fee, rode around for the day and then went home, where's the harm?
The Axe Throwers? Can't say it rings any bells to be honest, so that proves your point, I guess... Are they in Stratford???
The only poker runs I knew of are hosted by the Magogs, an OMG who attract all other OMG's... but these are small by comparison to ones held in major centres.
Good causes and all, for sure... but it is an admitted fact that many do these runs for the improvement of the public image (ie: it isn't a line the cops made up...).
You takin the piss outta me needlework group? By hokey... All those tea cosys we make for charity....
They're Hawera, but low profile, they have their own clubhouse etc, good setup actually. They host a show at the racecourse every second year, last Labour W/e there was one. Hot rods and all. There's certainly some sexy tin in the 'naki.
Me? Take the piss?Bite your tongue.
Tis on every year. $5 programme gives you a ticket to go in to the draw for a yank tank.
A Corvette was the 1st years prize, some 70 + year old duck won that and she sold it for the $$$ The following year was a Plymouth of some sort I think... a bit plain. This years was a Plymouth (?) Convertable, white leather upholstery, but don't look too closely - the dash was a bit average and looked its age IMHO.
Wonder what they will have as a prize next year?
They might be growing now......
Have you seen what the Beach Hop has up for grabs?
