Important note on using pushbike speedos...
The speedo must work, be accurate AND have a light so it can be read at night. DAMHIK.
I wouldn't let the plonkers that work at Onroad or VTNZ ride my bike either.
But then, I wouldn't take my bike to an issuing agency that didn't have someone working there that I could trust to ride my bike. (It's great being able to do my own WOFs).
If anyone brings their bike to me for a WOF but refuses to let me road test it, I refuse to carry out the WOF inspection.
Had one that wouldent let me ride it...
Refused to hand the key over, said I could do it without it and stormed out of the workshop!
So I failed everything I couldent test (horn, lights, ect dont work) and charged him $40.
Easy $40 for the boss and he didnt come back!![]()
ive always gone to the aa for my WOF, and none of my bikes have ever been ridden on the road. the most of theyve done is go back a little ways and then forwards to test the brakes. i dont know that that counts?
Yeah its funny that.
I'm a bike and light vehicle (car) AVI, (authorised vehicle inspector).
We are meant to test drive the vehicles. When we get our audit and checks from the LTSA inspectors part of their test on us is with us in cars.
You can pick up so many safety features on cars & bikes by driving them, especially in the brakes, suspension areas.
How the testing stations get away with not even driving them is bizarre, and when I've questioned the LTSA guy about that he really has no answer except to say, thats how its been with them, and he agrees its not the best but nothing is done etc etc.
Myself if I was not in this field would want a AVI to ride/drive my vehicles so I know that all is well safety wise.
Not all inspectors are looking for work on failing WOFs.
Some are of course..............
I agree, things can get worse over time and if you're riding day in day out you may not notice. Yet if someone else jumps on they can tell instantly if something isn't right and needs investigation... that is if they know anything about bikes. Hence the reason i steer clear of VTNZ testing stations and go to people who actually know what they're doing.
I'm the same here. Especially on a motorbike. You dont want something that has been slowly wearing away to all of a sudden 'go' when you are riding.... could be the difference of not going home again that night![]()
As for the speedo, if its on the bike/vehicle its supposed to be working to get a WoF
(OO\SKYLINE/OO)
I was surprised to find recently that you don't need to have working hazard lights for a WOF.
Well mine does and it used to work but now magically it doesn't and the guys at the shop said something about 2 phase indicator where the others are 3 phase or some such...again though it WAS working before...
Anywho not critical but I thought if I had them they should be operational to get a WOF - just as well not needed!
Suzuki electrics eh!![]()
