Clever little bird that pooey.![]()
Arrived home tonight after 4 days of adv riding bliss.
And yes, we raised over $1,300 for St John at the Brass Monkey Rally alone.
Pics and stories to follow.
It's been a pleasure and a privilage to have hosted the little shit.
Aslan will continue north tomorrow with Pooey and friends.
did it snow and freeze ya nuts down there.....
I FEEL THE NEED, THE NEED FOR SPEED

ok - having had great hospitality here in the South Island of Aotearoa (Waipounamu) - Pooey is hitting the road for Picton - leaving Ashvegas soon.
I understand the illustrious 4Sklins of CCA fame is expecting to receive Pooey later this week - and has the little bird scheduled to have her hearing tested.
NB - there was a group of Wellington based ADV riders who used to meet for lunch on Thursdays or Fridays weekly. This group has been in recess -however, I think the chance to meet Pooey and donate dollars to St John's warrants a meeting of the Lambton Bikers at Rhazoo this Thursday at noon. So be at Rhazoo Thursday noon or be square - all welcome - irrespective of whether you're a tar baby or a gravel surfer.![]()
those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind..
They are on their way back north - Pooey, Aslan (with son Aaron) & Ven left here at approx 10am, to catch 5pm ferry sailing tonight.
A brief trip summary. Aslan will eventually post a full story on the AdvRider link. In the meantime here's a few teasers of Pooey's Brass Monkey Rally trip south:
6 bikes left Ashvagas - 2 x 990's, 1 x 690, 1 x 640, 1 x GS1150 & 1 x XF650. Even though mine was the only jap, at least it had the most stickers.
We zig zagged down via Rangitata to Geraldine, Pioneer Trail to Upper Waitohi, had a crack at the Brothers Track (only 3 bikes got through), then McKenzie pass via Burkes Pass.
1) Pooey staring down the Chequred Flag cat - Pooey won.
2) line-up under the Richard Pearce memorial - yes it did fly but then crashed into a gorse fence. Hence it's called the "hedge cutter"
3) Fairlie monument to McKenzie the sheep rustler. Pooey is confused - is that a dog or a pig?
4) Pooey straddling another momument, McKenzie Pass
Did Haka Pass to Kurow where we stayed in the pub Friday night. From there our group split up a bit with the 990's going off to ride / race with MickyBoy & the other KTM's went to Oamaru.
1) Fog in the Haka Valley, the stuff that ices up the inside of your visor
2) Aslan breaking ice in Myers Pass
3) Clarksfield Track overlooking Waitaki Valley. Can you see Pooey waving? - he wasn't so cheerful after riding through all the land mines further up that hill.
4) Bikes keeping warm in the Pub Lounge Bar - KTM's are tough, they stayed outside

NOW
Saturday we hit Danseys Pass where I had a drive of a very special Model A truck (reason later). At Ranfurley I left Aslan at his hotel with what looked like his rear wheel on fire. With the associated delays we flagged Dunstan Trail & I headed to the Rally.
1) first I met with our fund raising assistants - Pooey and I couldn't believe our luck.
2) Pooey (the lazy shit) just watched while I pitched my tent next to the Dam. He was probably showing off to his cousins in the background too.
3) Pooey in heaven
4) Plod telling Pooey to lay off the booze
I don't have many pics from the nights activities, either my camera didn't like the cold or I wasn't capable of operating it. But there should be some goodies taken by the St Johns girls - it was another fantastic Brass Monkey Rally. I thought I was in bed by 12:30 but have since been told it was closer to 2am. Most importantly though, Ven and I made sure that Pooey, the donations and the girls were all safe and secure. I also have to say that the St Johns girls insisted they had a great time and want to come back to the Brass next year. We were a great team and are real proud of our $1,350 success.
1) Kevin & Christine Pooke - our first Brass Monkey Rally donators (or should that be donatees?)
2) Pooey riding side car
3) Pooey in the money
4) Presenting the donations to the Maniototo St John on Sunday morning (shit I look fat in my wets).
Looks like he had a good time![]()
Excellent!
Pooey hanging with the fuzz is a classic.
Adv rider will love those pics.
